MassDEP SMRP Grant Workshop
In early May, MassDEP will offer a workshop on their next round of SMRP grants. The meeting with be held at the Barnstable County Complex on Rt. 6A. The exact date and time of the workshop is still being worked out. Stay tuned.

Lower Cape Recycling Forum Held
On February 13th, members of several Recycling Committees on the Lower Cape gathered to meet one another, discuss their efforts, and share ideas to help increase recycling in their towns. The forum was sponsored by Community Development Partnership in Eastham through a grant from the USDA.  I hope this will be the first of many opportunities for town committees to collaborate on recycling issues. Keep an ear open of for a radio discussion about the forum on WOMR's This Place Matters, which airs Wednesdays at 12:30pm on 92.1FM or 91.3FM.

Data from this municipal surveys provides useful public information about state-wide trends and the effectiveness of municipal recycling programs. For example, data from last year's survey was used to create this map showing how much trash per household each town produces:

Please note that completing the survey is a pre-requisite to submitting a Sustainable Materials Recovery Program Municipal grant application, which will be available by mid-April, 2013.

Keep America Beautiful & Coke Foundation Grants
The program, designed to support recycling across the country by helping local organizations receive collection bins, is funded through a $300,000 grant from the Coca-Cola Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the beverage giant. Since 2010 it has distributed more than 29,000 recycling bins to 300 organizations reaching 4.3 million people.
As part of the program, the bins are used by local organizations to provide public space recycling infrastructure. Eligible recipients for the public space grant include government agencies, civic organizations, schools and nonprofit groups. All colleges and universities will be eligible for the college-specific grant.
Grant applications will be available online through March 4. All interested parties can visit bingrant.org to apply.

State Awards $400,000 for Anaerobic Digestion Facility at Dartmouth Landfill - The proposed digester facility would be located at the Crapo Hill landfill in Dartmouth and the biogas produced by this pilot plant will be used to generate electricity through the gas-to-energy facility already located on-site
