OADSP Eflash Newsletter - Feb 2016
Written for and by Direct Support Professionals
Welcome to the February edition of the OADSP Eflash newsletter. 2016 plans to be a very exciting year for OADSP. The much anticipated Frontline Supervisor Credential will pilot in 3 locations allowing registrants the option to take 1, 2, 10 or even 20 modules.  Registration for the Leadership LAUNCHpad is open and promises to be a unique leadership retreat experience that allows participants to fully immerse themselves in the culture of leadership with like-minded people. We also met with members of the NEW Supervisor Council on a very snowy day in February. They were kept busy planning for the OADSP Summit and they also picked the theme for the 2016 DSP Event, which will be revealed at the beginning of May. Our regular columnist Jessi Hutson was awarded the 2016 Duke Energy Difference Maker Award and we are excited to announce a new column, "DSP Rock Star Moment!". In each addition of the Eflash newsletter we will feature a DSP who stood out and made you say..."Wow, they are a Rock Star!".

2016 Difference Makers: Adult Finalists
Our very own columnist Jessi Hutson was honored at the 2016 Duke Energy Children's Museum Difference Makers Awards. Born in Calcutta, India with cerebral palsy, Jessi was adopted and brought to the United States. In school, she struggled to find acceptance by administrators, teachers and fellow students in a mainstream environment. Her desire to overcome her feelings of inadequacy due to her disability, adoption and ethnic diversity motivated her to address these challenges for others. With the support of her family and the community, along with the Butler County Developmental Disabilities Agency, she has become a huge advocate of battling bullying and helping other individuals with disabilities. This past year, Jessi started a non-profit organization called "You've Got the Power." She sells sock monkeys, bracelets, T-shirts and hats to earn money to help provide funding to help individuals who need assistance in funding handicap-accessible modifications within their homes to help in their mobility.

Duke Energy Children's Museum's Difference Makers Celebration honors youth, adults, businesses and agencies that share our focus to better the lives of children in our community. Difference Makers go out of their way to enact significant change in the community. They distinguish themselves from others by their dedication and impact.

Congratulations Jessi on your success!
