Statement of Rep. Reynolds Regarding Montgomery County

Barratry Charges

HOUSTON (Mar. 25, 2013) -- State Rep. Ron Reynolds (Fort Bend County, District 27) addressed barratry charges connected with arrest warrants from Montgomery County involving himself and several other Houston-area lawyers on Monday.

"This warrant and inquiry comes on the heels of my clearance from barratry charges in Harris County, and my office is fully cooperating with investigators regarding this matter as well," said Rep. Reynolds. "I will fight diligently to prove my innocence."

Today, attorneys for Rep. Reynolds learned from the Montgomery County District Attorney's office that the alleged lead of a barratry scheme, Robert Valdez, is currently in the Montgomery County Jail on domestic violence charges. "We were informed by the Montgomery County DA's office today that Valdez is alleged to be a habitual criminal facing 25 years to life in prison," said Vivian King and Jules Laird, attorneys representing Rep. Reynolds. "Valdez' criminal history was unknown to attorney Reynolds before today. Valdez owns a chiropractic clinic that has referred personal injury cases to attorney Reynolds' office and has consulted with attorney Reynolds on various cases. Furthermore, it is our belief that Valdez is trying to strike a deal with the DA due to his current and past criminal history and is falsely incriminating others. Attorney Reynolds maintains his innocence, is fully cooperating with the authorities and will work to prove his innocence of any wrongdoing. Attorney Reynolds is in the process of posting bond on the barratry charges that seem to stem from Robert Valdez."

Rep. Ron Reynolds was recently investigated, but never indicted on allegations of barratry in Harris County.

"I have faith in God and in the Criminal Justice System and believe justice will prevail," stated Rep. Reynolds.
