Accu-Tech Invites FSI to Participate in LEED Seminar Series

Accu-Tech, national distributor for security and data LEED Seminar Series infrastructure solutions, is hosting a series of continuing education events entitled LEED Seminar Series.

The purpose of the events is to introduce security industry trends and emerging technologies to those within the security industry. Attendees will receive a good understanding of the challenges in the market segment and learn best practices for security systems design. Designers, specifiers and RCDD's are expected to attend, receiving BICSI, GBCI and AIA CEU credits for the course. Fiber SenSys is pleased to be one of several companies participating as presenters; our one-hour presentation at each event will focus on Fiber-Optic Sensors in Security Systems.

The first event is scheduled for 7/31 in Seattle. Other upcoming LEED Seminars are:

8/7/2013     Omaha

8/21/2013   Tampa

9/26/2013   Detroit

10/9/2013   Chicago

11/6/2013   Phoenix

12/4/2013   Los Angeles

12/11/2013  San Ramone / San Jose

Better Lighting Improves Performance of Cameras and Saves Cost

Perimeter security lighting is an fsi led lighting important part of an outdoor perimeter security intrusion detection system. Illuminating the camera field of view with an Infrared (IR) or white-lighting system significantly improves the performance of the camera and saves energy costs.

Ensuring optimum illumination for any perimeter application is crucial for achieving top level security and safety, especially at night. More and more perimeter applications are turning to Infra-Red and White-Light LED lighting solutions instead of traditional lighting technologies such as halogen, sodium or metal halide. An LED lamp is a solid-state lamp that uses light-emitting diodes (LEDs) as the source of light.

LED lighting offers significant advantages including:

  • Optimized Lighting for Best Night-Time CCTV Images
  • IR LED - Covert surveillance for long distances
  • White Light LED - Quick activation for deterrent lighting
  • Low power consumption, zero maintenance
  • Long life and reliability
  • Significant energy, running cost and labor savings

Every perimeter lighting application is unique. Whether you are lighting the perimeter of a power substation, a correctional facility, or an airport, there are general standards and recommended practices for using the correct lighting solution and the best design approach for sites with typical characteristics. The design and installation of the lighting determines the overall effectiveness of the solution. Fiber SenSys Model LDxx lighting systems are now fully integrated to provide intrusion deterrence with long-range LED and solutions for zone-based automatic lighting to illuminate areas with initial potential intrusion attempts. Lighting scatters the culprits before a crime is committed and saving money by reducing the need and priority to dispatch a security force.

Visit the Fiber SenSys website and log in (upper right corner of the site) to review our Application Note 'Lighting for Perimeter Security Applications' for in-depth look at perimeter lighting solutions and the effective use of cost-efficient LED technology. And take a look at this recent AccuTech post on the merits of LED lighting.

Optex Launches Fiber SenSys FD508 Alarm Processor Unit

Fiber Optic Fence Detection System Enhances Security Offering

Optex® - the leading detector and perimeter security solutions specialist - has launched the Fiber SenSys FD508™ fiber optic fence detection system. This cost-effective, high performance 8-zone alarm processing unit (APU) uses sophisticated algorithms to detect intruders who are attempting to climb over, crawl under or cut through a fence.

FD508 Perimeter APU The FSI FD508 APU uses a rack-mounted design that can be located remotely and is designed to provide high-security perimeter protection while simplifying the installation, configuration and commissioning of the system. Features include a single-strand sensing design with up to 800 meters of cable per zone.

Ideally suited to critical infrastructure or large industrial premises where reliability is key, the advanced fiber-optic sensing is unaffected by harsh external climate conditions. The algorithms are able to distinguish between genuine intruders and nuisance alarms that might be caused by wind, vibrations or small animals. Tuning software is included and is readily tailored to the system's unique environment.

Takuya Okamoto, Managing Director at Optex Europe, says that the addition of the FD508 APU complements the Optex range of high security, rack-mounted, site remote fence protection systems.  "The design has been modified to use standard connectors (SC/APC) and the configuration of the zones has been simplified by building the delay coils in, making this new model easier and more cost-effective to install."

The high-end models within the Fiber SenSys range have been approved by the US Air Force, the only fiber-optic intrusion detection system that is Protection Level 1 Nuclear (PL-1N) rated. It is ideally suited for large government and critical infrastructure applications, including military (permanent and tactical), airports, government facilities, prisons, nuclear and chemical plants, refineries, heritage properties, power stations and reservoirs.
