Jane was ready. We had worked for weeks to get her accomplishments and results over the past year in a one page memo. She had made the appointment with the boss. Her intention was to ask for and receive a promotion and raise.
Her boss was most appreciative of her work and agreed to the promotion - but - stated that they would have to see how she performed for six months before considering a salary increase.
What could Jane do?
My advice was not to accept the promotion without a salary increase. As Sheryl Sandberg said, "you've got to be willing to walk."
She could accept the promotion and hope that the salary increase followed.
What did she do?
She accepted the promotion with no salary increase and had a new job in another company with a promotion and salary increase within two months!
Poor decision made by her former employer.
Stay Awesome,
Betsy
