FOCUS TEXT:
Genesis 37:1-4, 12-28
Preaching, Rev. Ruben Swint

WORSHIP NOTES

Yusuf and the Troublesome "Daddy Loves Me" Longcoat is the title of a musical that few people have heard. Today's sermon will explore the themes found in the musical's songs. Here are a few of the songs:

"Sister Wives, Marching As To War"

"Dream a Little Dream of ME"

"Any Death Will Do

The story line supporting the musical is one of a family business suffering from incompetence, nepotism, infighting and succession issues. No, the story is not a spin off from the hit TV series Dallas. This is one of our sacred stories and it informs us of family values straight from the Bible.

Unlike most TV series, the resolution of this conflict will not occur in 30 minutes or an hour, not even an hour of worship. The most we can hope for may be Hope itself.

OUR PREACHER FOR THE DAY

Ruben Swint is an ordained Baptist minister. He and his wife Margie Swint, a music therapist and entertainer, grew up in Columbus, Georgia and were members of the same church until they moved to Louisville, Kentucky to attend seminary. Prior to seminary, Ruben worked in the meat packing industry. After seminary, Ruben has been a minister of church administration, a denominational capital campaign consultant, a foundation president and now an independent fundraising consultant and generosity coach.

Ruben and Margie have a son Chris Swint who is a senior at the University of North Georgia majoring in Applied Environmental Spatial Analysis (he makes data maps).

BOOKS FOR MONTCLAIR

ELEMENTARY
MES is a community partnership school that Central UCC helps support. They have specifically asked our congregation for 2nd - 5th grade reading level books. If you can contribute any used or new books please place them in the marked bin outside the sanctuary. Also, if you have time during your week to tutor a kid with a little extra reading time one-on-one, please contact Lacey Brown. Your donations and time are greatly appreciated.

BUSINESS IS BOOMING AT THCA!

We are serving record numbers of people, well over 1000 each month! With increased service comes increased need for help from you.  We are looking for people to volunteer from 12:30 pm to 4 pm, even just once a month.  We especially need volunteers on the first and second Mondays, first and fifth Wednesdays, and second and fifth Thursdays of each month.  Duties can include greeting clients, reviewing forms, helping visitors get groceries, answering phones, helping clients pay rent or utilities and providing a listening ear.

We have been fortunate enough to be the beneficiaries of an Eagle Scout Project.  Andrew Barnhardt has provided shelving so we can inventory our food in an organized manner.  These shelves are located in a part of the building that is not air conditioned.  We are looking for a donation of three window units or small stand alone air conditioners.

If any of this sounds interesting to you, please email Mary Louise Wilson or stop by and see us.

TOCO HILLS FOOD PANTRY PLEASE STOCK THE SHELVES

The shelves at Toco Hills Community Alliance need to be replenished.  The pantry always needs CANNED MEATS such as tuna, chicken, spaghetti with meatballs, spam, etc. And also they can use other kinds of food such as Cereal, Pasta, and Canned Veggies & Fruits.  Thank you for all your doing to help feed our neighbors around Central.  Questions?  Ask Jean Haller
