Second Sunday after Pentecost

LECTIONARY READINGS (Click to read them)

8:30 AM Service of Word and Table
FOCUS TEXT:  Matthew 10:40-42
Rev. Donald Miller, preaching
The sermon is going to focus on the radical welcoming we are called to extend to the stranger and to receive at God's table.
Donald has been with Emory Healthcare since 2003 serving as a Chaplain. He is currently serving at the Emory University Orthopaedics and Spine Hospital, in Tucker. He has been a member of CCUCC since 2003.

11:00 AM Service of Word with Sanctuary Choir
FOCUS TEXT: Luke 4:16-24
The youth will be reporting on two mission trips. The Middle High Youth went to south Georgia in early June to help with the South GA Farmworkers Health Project. The Senior High Youth are at the Appalachian South Folklife Center in West Virginia this week rehabbing a family's home.  Each evening, they have been discussing "Where did you see God today?" "What did you feel called to do today?" On Sunday, they will reflect on their sense of call to this work.
 SABBATICAL PREACHERS
Through the summer while Rev. Michael is on sabbatical, Central UCC members, lay and ordained, will be preaching.
  • July 6: Ron Joyner
  • July 13: Lacey Brown; at 11:00am there will be the baptism of James Roger Baroi Adhikari
  • July 20: Rev. Truman Moore
  • July 27: Rev. Joyce Myers-Brown
Rev. Michael will return to the pulpit at Central on Homecoming Sunday, September 7.

THANK YOU

Treasurer's Report

July 2013 - May, 2014

We have currently $135,914 in our checking accounts and a total of $660,466 in our endowment accounts.  Some of our designated funds include:

  • The minister for children and youth funds have $19,291.
  • The music fund has $13,135.
  • The preschool 2013/2014 fund has $44,000.
  • The preschool 2012/2013 fund has $12,604. We continue to make our required principal and interest on our capital mortgage (now down to a total of $104,026) and also the additional expenses for the maternity leave for Charlotte Shirley from the preschool 2012/2013 fund.

During the first 11 months of our 2013/2014 fiscal year (91.7% of the year) we have had pledge income of $355,225 (88.8% of budgeted).  Plymouth Harbor has income for that period of $93,700 (91.9%).  Total income for that period was $523,980 (88.8%).  Total income has been $16,696 less than predicted for the first 11 months of our fiscal year.  Most of this deficit in income is due to less than predicted income (by $11,441) in pledge income.

Our total expenses for the first 11 months of our fiscal year were $565,537 (95.9% of the yearly budget) and $24,860 more than the amount budgeted for the first 11 months.  The two largest items of excess expenses were maintenance and repairs (excess of $7,571) and Plymouth Harbor (excess of $8,319). Plymouth Harbor was affected by winter storm closings.

Therefore, we have a net deficit for the first 11 months of our fiscal year of $16,696 plus $24,860 equals $41,556.  The deficit specifically for the month of May, 2014 was $3,302.

This coming Sunday (June 29, 2014) is the last Sunday in our fiscal year.  Please consider either completing your operating pledge or, if your are able, making an extra donation to help decrease our operating deficit for this fiscal year.
