WORSHIP NOTES

A sneak peek at Rev. Michael's sermon for Palm Sunday:

Sat., April 12, 8:00-10:00pm, Fellowship Hall
This Saturday night at Lena's Place promises to be a WOW of a musical program! All performers are top-notch, from Bruce Gilbert to Paul Pendery and friends! AND the proceeds benefit our own PLYMOUTH HARBOR!! The cost (donation) is minimal (only $5.00 -- but you can donate more if you wish) -- it's a really cheap date! Homebaked brownies and cookies are always available for a donation, along with fair trade coffee and tea. If you've never been to Lena's Place, THIS SATURDAY, April 12, would be a great time to give it a try!
Doors open at 7:30; music starts at 8:00. Come and bring friends!! You'll be glad you did.
8:00 pm Jerry Brunner, Bruce Gilbert and Cyndi Craven are JustBe'Cause. Jerry Brunner and Cyndi Craven, veterans of the Atlanta music scene, have been performing together since the 1980s. In 2007, Bruce Gilbert came all the way from California. The music that comes from this trio is the result of profound friendship, heaping helpings of creativity, and decades of noodling on piano and guitar. 9:00 pm Paul Pendery is a singer songwriter from the folk tradition, who's stories and performance style are clearly influenced by time spent in Texas, the Great Northwest, Appalachia and the Deep South. Solid and percussive guitar playing combine with his rich and expressive voice for a wonderful evening of funny, sometimes poignant entertainment.

Additionally, a pastor will be available for special/individual private prayers.
GOOD FRIDAY: Service of Tenebrae - Friday, April 18 at 7:00 pm
During this solemn service, we will enter the "shadows" (Tenebrae) that Jesus and the disciples felt as fear, betrayal and death sought to have the last and the lasting word. Through a progression of readings, hymns and choral anthems, twelve candles will be extinguished and the Christ candle sent to a sepulcher. Participants will depart in silence to enter the hopeful waiting for Easter's dawn and the return of the Alleluias.

Congratulations
Larry Anderson, M.D
Central member Larry Anderson, M.D., has received the CDC's Charles C. Shepard Lifetime Achievement Award for more than 30 years of scientific achievement. The award recognizes "an individual for a body of work contributing to public health. Nominees were judged on the scientific merit of their work, its effect on public health, and the mission of CDC/ATSDR, and on their leadership and recognition by peers."
Larry's response was, "I feel that I have been fortunate in that I have been paid to have fun, doing something that I thoroughly enjoy. And now people have given me an award for doing what I love to do. It is amazing and I am very appreciate for all of the opportunities I have had." In his typical humble fashion Larry credits those he has worked with over the years with the achievements of his division. CONGRATULATIONS, LARRY, FOR AN AWARD WELL-DESERVED!

ONGOING SUNDAY GATHERING:
SACRED JOURNEYS
Sundays, 9:30 to 10:50 AM
Fellowship Hall, Steinhaus Library
Each week this group explores how spirit guides our personal journeys, and we gain new insights by listening to each other. It is a sacred hour +, from 9:30 to about 10:50, where the discussion might be inspired one week by a poem, another by an excerpt from a book, a film clip, or an audio tape. You do not need to read or prepare in advance, and you can join this class from time to time, whenever you wish. Sacred Journeys is wide open. We close the door to create a quiet space but you are welcome to open it and come on in. Get to know new people at Central or revisit old friends and explore how the spiritual intertwines with the personal for you.
