TRINITY SUNDAY

LECTIONARY READINGS (Click to read them)

 Focus Text: Romans 5:1-5;

Proverbs 8:1-4, 22-31

 Rev. Ginnie Ferrell and Rev. Dr. Lou Kavar

will share a dialogue sermon.

WORSHIP NOTES

We began to look at the Romans 5:1-5 text which asks us to boast about our suffering. Pain is inevitable and may be ongoing in our lives or it may be momentary. Could we look at suffering as pain not confronted? Are we suffering if we move and live and voice our pain by words or actions? Does boasting in our suffering mean we are not letting it own our days? And when we give voice to our pain are we more awake to life around us? Do we notice more? Are we more in tune with Wisdom's call to life? The Proverbs text asks us to notice the world around us in our cities, in the natural world and see how that awareness leads us to new life. Wisdom is there in the daily circle of life, ready to teach us if we but open our eyes.

Youth Ministry Director

Many years Central has had a youth intern to work with the youth on Sunday mornings and other events. Rev. Ginnie has been involved with the youth through all these years. Over the last year, Rev. Ginnie has enjoyed leading the youth worship and spending more time with the youth at all the gatherings and retreats. But next year, Rev. Ginnie will be moving her focus to ministry with children and families. Central has hired a part-time Youth Ministry Director, Lacey Brown, to work with our 6th to 12th graders. She will begin her work with the Peace Camp for the 4th Graders and older.

Lacey Brown is a recent M. Div. graduate of Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA. Lacey is currently a Member in Discernment with the Southeast Conference of the UCC and hopes to be approved for ordination within the next year. Originally from southwest Florida, Lacey has been a resident in Atlanta for the last four years and is an active member of Kirkwood UCC. She has been a part of church and youth programs all her life and is excited about her new position at Central UCC. She maintains an active lifestyle running, biking, and hanging out with friends and family. Some of her favorite things about Atlanta are the beautiful parks, great restaurants, and annual neighborhood festivals. Lacey brings energy, enthusiasm, and creativity to the church and is looking forward to new relationships with youth and their families in the months ahead.

Martene Stansbery will continue to be assistant leader with the Sunday youth gatherings and also will be teaching bridge at the Peace Camp.

Spiritual Direction
with Rev. Lou Kavar, Minister-in-Covenant

Are you looking to explore the role spirituality plays in your life? Do you find that beliefs you once held no longer work for you?  In the midst of transitions, do you wonder how your values and beliefs come
into play? Working with a spiritual director may be helpful for you.

Spiritual direction is a process through which an individual explores, develops, and deepens the spiritual dimension of life with the aid and guidance of a director or coach. It is a process whose focus is to better integrate the spiritual dimension of life with other life dimensions, including relationships, work, and leisure interests.

The Rev. Lou Kavar is available to you as a spiritual director.  For more information, contact Rev. Lou (Click here).

Volunteer / Donate

Women's Fellowship members recently had as their speaker Lisa Wise, Executive Director of Initiative for Affordable Housing, which has been active in Dekalb County for about 20 years. Recently IAH started a job training program teaching people to weave on large looms, and it has been very successful! The weavers use donated cloth and old clothes that have stains or tears (because these don't show when the strips of cloth are tightly woven together!). They accept donations of clean but worn/used clothes, linens, curtains, etc., at the weave shop at 3032 N. Decatur Rd., Scottdale, GA 30079. Customers looking for handwoven products can visit the re:loom store at 1434 Scott Blvd., Suite 200, Decatur, GA 30030, (by appointment) or visit the website.   Volunteers are needed, donations are needed, and talent is needed for not only the weave shop but helping to support homeless or low-income people become independent. Visit the organization's website and see where your time, talents, or money could be put to very good use!
