Flowers are blooming and everyone is enjoying them!

I am finally getting around to a new electronics newsletter....HURRAH!  We haven't been sitting around. Sitting around is not something we have time for!

After a terrible vehicle accident, our mail route substitute is out of commission. Alan was broad sided by a semi-truck which landed him in the hospital with surgery to repair his smashed knee cap....ouch! We wish Alan a speedy recovery. In the mean time, should Larry fall ill or need a break, I stepped up again to deliver mail. Leave it to the post office to need my finger prints again. Doesn't everyone change their fingerprints along with their nail polish? LOL They also required a new driving record report.  All the paperwork is filled out and I start delivering mail this Monday to give Larry a much needed break. I cannot thank him enough for all his hard work which supports our Rescue.

Low on funds, we have been trying very hard to not add to our veterinary fees and work load by taking in more mouths to feed. Well, a beautiful boy, Scooby was going to have his throat slit so in comes another one. <sigh> Scroll down to read about him or click Scooby "In This Issue" list of articles to read more about him.

      Hope you enjoy this newsletter!

Blessings,

Kitties enjoy flowers too!

Wanting to dress the place up on a tight budget, I made a bench for less than fifty bucks with cinder blocks. Everyone is raving about it and the kitties smell SO good!

Here's a close up of the bench: (Yes, that's a real cat in the window!)

The bench for the kitties was so easy, I made a smaller one for our front gate area!

Linda,

Picture of King with his summer haircut. He is doing well and enjoying his summer chasing rabbits with Shilo. They haven't caught any yet (Not sure they would even know what to do if they did!) but they sure are enjoying themselves. King is just such a sweetheart and I can't believe no one ever adopted him in all that time he was with you.

Hope you have a great summer.

Here's hoping you have a quiet July 4th -- not too many fireworks here in Fort Collins, yet.

I took this picture of Annie this morning -- cannot believe she is 14. Typically she hates the camera but I took this picture when she wasn't looking. : ) She just had her annual checkup and dental - healthy old girl.

 Scooby

NO MORE, we are FULL.... But when we received a telephone call from a supporter, we had to step up. The caller told us her neighbor's dog was out on a chain and often times tangled and couldn't reach his food and water. She also told us when she asked the neighbor what he was going to do with the dog when he moved; he told her he would "just" slit its throat.

Well.....Meet Scooby! He is a 4 ½ year old Siberian Husky and he's a LOVE! However, when we would pet him, he would cry which at first we thought was a show of aggression. We discovered he only cried when we pet him past his shoulders. After hours of trying to brush him to remove stickers, he was taken to our veterinarians to be shaved. Scooby was knocked out and we used three cow shavers and two dog clippers to shave him. The shavers were all getting hot and had to be alternated to get through his thick matted coat. Scooby now loves to be petted and constantly runs and jumps for joy!

The following are of Scooby being cleaned up. He was a MESS.

5 Things That People Do That Make Dogs Uncomfortable!

Dog Growl

Dogs are known for being pretty tolerant, easy-going creatures, but there are certain things that can bother even the most docile of pups. Your intentions may be good when giving a dog a hug or patting a pooch on the head, but some canines don't appreciate these actions and they can result in fearful or aggressive behavior. Below are five things not to do that often make dogs uncomfortable:

1. Hug a strange dog: Dogs don't express affection in the same ways that humans do. While some dogs will tolerate hugs from their own family, a hug from a stranger can be interpreted as threatening. If a dog tenses up or disengages from your hug, he's clearly uncomfortable.

2. Pet a dog on the head: Reaching for the top of a dog's head can be a recipe for disaster. If it's a dog you haven't met before, let him greet you first and then opt for a chest rub instead of a head pat.

3. Make direct eye contact: While people may see eye contact as a sign of connection or good communication, dogs can perceive it as a threat. Be aware that eye contact is a sign of dominance in the canine world.

4. Put your face right in their face: People often do this to express affection, but this behavior can be intimidating and make a dog tense and uncomfortable.

5. Expose a dog to a noisy environment: A dog's hearing is at least twice as sensitive to that of a human, making noisy situations uncomfortable and sometimes anxiety inducing. So think twice before turning that music way up or exposing your canine companion to a large get-together. If your dog is especially anxious, a calming supplement may help.

Dog Thinks

Previously:
 Crate Cleaning
Doesn't everyone just hate that job? A neat way to make it easier to clean crates is to use Scrubbing Bubbles Bathroom Cleaner. Spray the foam on, let it set for a few minutes and wipe off. For hardened food and goo a putty knife also helps.

Dogs With Joint Problems
Most people know how dangerous Rimadyl (*see below) can be. Pet Pals and several adopters have had wonderful results with Duralactin. It is for long term management of chronic inflammatory conditions in dogs. It is all natural and will not cause problems if you give too much.

One of our adopters reports that her dog has not had to have hip surgery because of the wonderful results of Duralactin. It can be purchased on e-bay.

*The market for dog arthritis pain medications tops $130 million a year and is growing about 13% a year, consulting firm Wood Mackenzie says.
But 3,200 dogs have died or been put down after taking the drugs, Food and Drug Administration records show. Almost 19,000 dogs have had bad reactions to them.

Firm UP!
Diggin Firm up is a pumpkin super supplement for digestive tract support in dogs and cats. It works WONDERFUL. It is Pumpkin and Apple Fiber that is mixed with wet pet food. Our kitties and Rosie (two-legged dog, spoiled with wet food) LOVE it.  Pet Pals purchases it on AmazonSmile and get a donation to boot!

Dogs that Dig out!
After receiving another call to take a dog because it digs out, we had a suggestion. Put stock panels on the ground and wire them to the sides... problem solved! The family is keeping their dog....HURRAH!

Dogs that Jump Fences!
After receiving another call to take a dog because they can't keep it from jumping the fence, we had a suggestion. Run an electric fence along the top of the existing fence to teach the dog that fences BITE....problem solved! The family is keeping their dog.....HURRAH!

NEW:

Need Antibiotics?
You can purchase antibiotics on-line from a number of places. It is sold as FishMox!

Melatonin can be purchased at Wal-mart or a number of other stores. It works GREAT to help dogs sleep.
