When talking on the phone, Martha never wanted to say good-bye. She said good-bye sounded too final. Instead she would say, "Click, click."
Martha was not only a GREAT friend for over 17 years, but an Animal Angel as well. She had no fear when it came to helping a pet in need. One dark night when animal control was closed for the evening, we went to pick up a dog that had been hit by a car. It wasn't only dark around midnight, but we had to go to the bad side of town. Martha said, "Pixie will protect us!" Pixie was her rescued Doberman. We put more faith in Pixie than we probably should have, but along with God's faith we survived! Pixie later really did protect us from some men wanting their fighting pit bulls returned to them. As Martha's health declined, Pixie later came to live with us when we moved from Michigan to Wyoming.
Martha was afflicted with
Milroy's Disease. Despite her condition Martha was always cheery and had a smile on her face. Being bed ridden, Martha enjoyed hearing our stories and paid us back with lots of little gifts which in return cheered us up. She also supplied our little dogs with pee pads that she had extra.
How I miss not picking up the phone to tell her our latest laugh which was a young gal wanting to come and pick up Love-a-Mouse and wanting to know what it meant to have a pet vetted. Then wanting to know why he needed to see a vet!!
This holiday season will not shine as bright, her presents will remain wrapped. We lost Martha the day before Thanksgiving. Click Martha's picture to visit, "My First Christmas in Heaven".
Click, click DEAR Friend.... Until we meet again.
