Happy Fall!

First, I would like to say welcome to our new subscribers and adopters!

My sincere apologies for not writing to you sooner.  What a busy summer it has been. Thunder storms rolled through almost every afternoon which made us scramble to get dogs inside. We only had minor damage this year but other areas weren't so lucky. Our hearts go out to those of you affected by the storms.

Pet Pals feels very blessed to not have had to say good-bye to any of our beloved four legged family members over the summer. This was not the case with our two legged family members. Last week my Dad passed away.  http://www.starherald.com/obits/louis-arnold-jr/article_4da7aeda-2013-11e3-a707-0019bb2963f4.html The week before I had rushed my Mother to the hospital late at night and found myself crawling into bed at 3 A.M.  Luckily, it turned out to only be a bladder infection. My Dad was so worried that he ended up in the hospital two days after bringing him out to see Mom and reassure him that she was okay.

All summer I was bringing Dad weekly from the nursing home 26 miles away to visit the farm/ranch where he was raised. He enjoyed the rides and even ate a large plate of my cooking during his last visit just two weeks ago. I did this while being the sole caregiver to my Mother which involved making sure she ate three meals daily, doling out her medicines, taking her to doctors several times a week AND taking care of her yard with no thoughts of being paid.

Some of you know how bad it is in this area when it comes to animal abuse. A baby calf nursing on his Mother one evening and slammed to the ground to have his neck broken the next day:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24RrmcE97V8

A horse run into a wall and then convulsing with blood spewing out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Da3r9o3DZEw

It is called a "sport" and the animals are called "atheletes". Children are taught young that animal abuse is okay and it takes place everywhere: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MVvD-8NSxM  Is it ANY wonder why there are so many shootings?

You would think after losing my Dad people would be nice, but this wasn't the case at the memorial luncheon at my parents' home immediately after the service. I was verbally attacked by a relative while visiting with someone else about our rescued pets. With hatred spewing from her eyes, she screamed, "Don't you know what shotguns are for?" Before I could say anything she continued. "Dogs and cats don't have souls and aren't in Heaven". At this point my husband, Larry, spoke up and said, "IF you go to Heaven, I hope you don't get bit!" At this point she stormed off muttering. SHAME on her for wanting us to kill God's creatures. Perhaps she never heard of Noah's ark and God saving animals. Some of us ARE doing God's work and other's ..... this is where I'm biting my tongue! Proverbs 12:10 A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.  I respect those of you who have different beliefs and certainly wouldn't get in your face after your parent's funeral.

It is hard to write a newsletter when your heart is broken but I want you to know how much your support in spirit and donations, HAVE kept us saving lives.

Our hearts go out to those who have lost family members both two and four legged.  We grieve with you.

Blessings,

Linda York, President

 UPDATES....

PeggySaved

Tammy and Jim planned a visit here to Pet Pals so we could see Peggy. We are sorry to report that Peggy, who was pictured in several of our newsletters, has passed away. Peggy was one of the lucky ones to find a perfect home. Pet Pals was told by several "rescues" to have Peggy euthanized because she was not socialized. Peggy's sister and several others were shoved into a gas chamber. She was adopted in 2002 and lived a wonderful life with a wonderful family. Peggy is sorely missed. Our condolences to Peggy's family.

In June of 2006 Candice adopted Chloe a Border Collie mix. Chloe had quite a ride to her forever home in Canada. She rode in a couple semi-trucks and rested in Ohio where she got scared during a thunder storm and jumped through a garage window. Unharmed, Chloe continued to her forever home where she remained one of the luckiest dogs on earth! Here is her update after battling cancer:

Hi Linda,

Chloe had another stellar check up at the oncologist last week. He doesn't want to see her again until October. She has now passed the 2 year remission mark! She sends you lots of hugs and kisses and as always thanks you for rescuing her and sending her here to me.

Woof!!!! love Candice and Chloe

Sadly, before the above e-mail was put in our newsletter, Chloe Rose suddenly passed away. Our heartfelt sympathies.

This summer, we received an update from Kari & Jim about their family member, Harley, whom they had adopted from Pet Pals in 2005. He was once a bite hold, per court order, at the Cheyenne Animal Shelter. Harley was now visiting a nursing home and putting smiles on patients' faces! Sadly, this month Harley passed away. Our heartfelt sympathies.

Leon & Ernie

Hi Linda,  I wanted to let you know that Cracker (Leon) & Ernie (Graham) are doing great! They love the big yard, rolling in the grass & the swimming pool Jon made them. Leon LOVES the water! Can hardly get him out of it. Ernie, not so much. The bad news is that little Opie developed tumors that, unfortunately turned cancerous. They took out the tumor, but the cancer had already taken over. He died in my arms last month. Little Ernie was so in love with Opie, not Leon strangely. He is moping around like they had been together forever. He doesn't seem to want anything to do with anyone else. I am hoping to find a younger puppy that he won't feel threated by..........

Thank you sooo, much for everything Linda, p.s. Let me know if the pictures I'm sending get there.

THANK YOU Marla!

The Needle!
Needle

Most of you are thinking this article is about killing pets, but you are wrong! From our very first newsletter dated March 2001 we have stressed the importance of having ID tags on your pets. Here is your chance to get a free ID tag and have fun at the same time!

Hidden somewhere in this newsletter is a picture of a needle like the one pictured with this article. Find the needle, be the first one to e-mail us with the location and we will send you an ID tag so your pet can get home and avoid a needle!

Thank you Martha for calling in the last find! The needle was located in the picture
at the end of the newsletter next to the stem of the flower.

There is another hidden needle. Good luck everyone! (The needle at the top of this article is NOT the hidden needle. It is what you're looking for!)

Keep ID tags on your pets and NEVER leave them outside unattended. Treat your dog like you would a two year old child.... They think about the same!

We have all received the e-mails..... You have won..... You have been named in an Estate....blah, blah, blah. I almost deleted an e-mail saying I was named in an Estate but it seemed sincere so I answered it. Lo and behold, it was true!

Unfortunately, I never met Jeanette Ferro or even spoke to her on the telephone. It was because of her love of animals and her cute e-mail address that I corresponded with her. In Jeanette's will she wrote money was to be sent to Linda York or her surviving spouse. Jeanette may have wanted me to have the money but I don't feel I would have "met" her if it hadn't been for Pet Pals so the money was handed over to treasurer, Lori Peterson to help save lives. We used some of the money to purchase a rail road car. Yes, a real rail road car! Being air-tight, it will be used to store pet food and called our Ferro building.

Also in Jeanette's honor a puppy was saved and named Farrah. Her picture and story is below. Bless you Jeanette for thinking of me. I miss the e-mails from KsAPigButt@XX

With our hectic work load we keep saying NO MORE! When we received a telephone call from a previous adopter, supporter and technician at our veterinarian's office saying they had two dogs brought in to be euthanized from the local pound, we couldn't say no.

In came Milk now called Kalei and Farrah. Kalei was adopted immediately after calling Mari who had just adopted Dingo.  Mari uploaded a video on youtube:

THANK YOU Mari and Brad!

Farrah, five months old, is still homeless but we do have a completed application which is being screened.

Meet Firecracker! One of the summer rain storms in July washed out part of the cat enclosure. We had cats everywhere! Traps were set to catch one of the escapees. A little skunk and a yellow cat were caught instead of the escapee! The yellow cat was named Firecracker . He certainly lives up to his name but is slowly taming down.

Thank YOU for helping us save these lives even if some of them don't appreciate it!
