Subject: Why we do what we do
Really hard to watch. Will rip your heart out and stomp on it -- make sure you have tissues. But well worth the time to watch and the heart-ache. Reaffirms why we do what we do - so hopefully at least one less animal in the world has to endure such a life. Also reaffirms everything we do it is worth it and the love and dignity we are able to provide are much appreciated by these souls in such desperate need.
Also good if you just need a good cry....

With a very heavy heart we had to say goodbye to our precious Boxer girl Sasha last night after rushing her to the Emergency Vet Clinic. She had a really bad seizure at home and then after being at the Vet Clinic for about an hour and just before we were about to leave Sasha in their care over night she had a cardiac arrest, the Doc said it was bad and if they resuscitated her she would probably have another one in a few hours so we decided to let her go.....
(Pet Pals is SO sorry for your losses)

WOW! Mandatory microchipping in the UK.
Here's an interesting statistic from the article: "Government figures reveal that more than 100,000 dogs are dumped or lost each year, at a cost of £57m to the taxpayer and welfare charities."
Some days it seems we have that many just in NE, IA, and KS alone. It would be interesting if all puppies had to be chipped and their ownership histories could be tracked, from puppy mills (or not) through negligent owners (or not). Talk about accountability. The "name and shame" possibilities... Probably a better deterrent than current animal welfare laws.

Dogs in England must be microchipped from 2016
Every dog owner in England will have to microchip their animal by April 2016 under plans aimed at cutting the growing number of strays.
The government says owners who refuse to comply with changes to the Animal Welfare Act face fines of up to £500.
Rice-sized microchips with a code containing the contact details of owners will be fitted to dogs.
A legal loophole could also be closed, meaning owners could face prosecution if their dog attacked on private land.
Relieve the burden
Government figures reveal that more than 100,000 dogs are dumped or lost each year, at a cost of £57m to the taxpayer and welfare charities.

Hi!
I just wanted to let you know that Chloe just got a great report from the oncologist. She has been in remission for over 18 months now and has come off one medication. He expects to take her off the final medication when he sees her again in three months. Yay!!! I attached a recent picture of her with one of our cats Graham, who is totally in love with her.
I hope everyone at your end is well.
Love Candice
