The other day I received a phone call from a friend.  She called wanting to schedule an appointment.  Her husband had recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and she though it was finally time to think about long term care insurance...for her husband.  I sadly had to tell her that husband was now forever uninsurable.  She did not know.

I referred her to a few local support organizations and an attorney.  Not much, but that was all I could do for her.  If only...

My friend was not alone in thinking she could wait to apply for long term care insurance until care was needed.  Please, please, please learn one thing from these monthly eNewsletters: You must qualify medically before you can obtain long term care insurance.  Don't wait until you need care (or are even diagnosed with a condition that may lead to a need for care) to apply.  It will be too late.

A plan to pay for Long Term Care services is not a financial plan.  But a financial plan that does not address long term care can not be a complete financial plan.
