City Manager's Message

As residents drive around town, one can't help but notice all of the street work that is being constructed. It is undoubtedly an inconvenience, but a temporary one that results in better, safer streets. Our staff and contractors work especially hard at scheduling repairs to minimize impacts to traffic, which sometimes means night or evening work during non-peak hours. Every year, the Public Works Department develops a Capital Improvement Program to plan out the construction activities. Typical projects that are included each year are annual residential slurry seal projects, residential overlays and concrete repairs. These keep our streets and sidewalks looking and performing at their best. In addition, RSM is proactive in making improvements to our traffic systems, including the installation of countdown pedestrian signals, speed feedback signs, and battery back-up systems to ensure that our signals operate even during a power outage. As the FY 13-14 Capital Improvement Program is being developed, residents can expect more of these types of projects to be included.

Sincerely,

Jennifer M. Cervantez

Street Resurfacing May Affect Traffic on Santa Margarita Parkway and Sections of the Robinson Ranch Neighborhood

Through May, repaving will occur  on a section of  Santa Margarita Parkway from Avenida de Las Flores to approximately 500 feet east of Buena Suerte, (click here for a map). The main paving operations will be conducted on the weekends to limit the impacts during rush-hour traffic on this important segment of the City's roadway system. The contractor will also be placing electronic message signs on the street in advance of the project.

Several residential streets in the Robinson Ranch neighborhood will also be resurfaced in May and June. Residents on the affected streets will be notified by the City's contractor, KAD Paving, Inc., in advance of each local street closure. Click here for a map of specific streets to be resurfaced.

A successful street maintenance program depends on your cooperation. Please remove all cars from the affected street when notified by the City's contractor. Thank you for your patience as we strive to improve your streets!

For more information about the project, please contact the Public Works Department at 949.635.1800, extension 6507.
