City Manager's Message

The month of November is the start of a season of holidays, celebrations and reflection. While we may tend to focus on shopping for gifts and partaking in culinary delights, there is much more in store for our community. Veterans Day reminds us to thank and recognize those that have served our country in the military. As we enjoy the unseasonably warm weather and signs that our economy is slowly improving, Rancho Santa Margarita has many positive things for which to be thankful at Thanksgiving. The City's annual New Year's Eve celebration is just around the corner as we set our sights on commemorating the City's "birthday" and the beginning of a new year. I cannot imagine a better family-friendly event anywhere than the one right here in Rancho Santa Margarita. This is THE opportunity for residents to come together and join in celebration for all ages. Those interested in serving the community as a volunteer or local community groups wishing to provide entertainment are encouraged to sign up! The City staff at City Hall and the Bell Tower and our public safety personnel are working very hard to ensure that we have a safe and fun holiday season all the way into next year.

Sincerely,

Jennifer M. Cervantez

Shop RSM!
Shopping locally benefits more than the local economy and local businesses. When you buy goods and services in Rancho Santa Margarita, you are also supporting your quality of life. One cent of every dollar spent on taxable goods and services in RSM helps fund important City programs and services, including police services, recreation programs, special events, and planning and building functions. Sales tax makes up approximately 27 percent of the City's general fund revenue sources, second only to property tax. In fact, the City budgets nearly $4 million in sales tax revenue on an annual basis (FY 12/13). This revenue source is completely dependent on the sales of goods and services that occur in RSM. So the next time you fill up your gas tank or make a purchase of items for your household, shopping in RSM will contribute to the quality of life that residents enjoy in our outstanding community.

New and Improved Special Event Permit

A Special Event Permit is required for any large outdoor events or gatherings. In an effort to better assist the public in streamlining this process, the City has revamped its Special Event Permit application. The new permit application assists the public in understanding the timing necessary to process the application and clearly describes what steps must be taken to meet all requirements. The new application also assists in understanding the role of other governmental agencies that are involved in the application review process. This is just another example of the City striving to make its permit process easier to follow.

A copy of the new Special Event Permit application can be found on the City's website under Forms.

If you have any questions about the Special Event Permit process, please contact Derek Bingham at 949.635.1800 x6705.
