:
Dear Travel Partners, One of the most intense heat waves ever observed has hit Southeast Asia during the last 6-7 weeks. The heatwave has been accompanied by severe droughts affecting many countries in the region and several Thai provinces.
Meteorologists forecast in 2016 that the strong influence of El Niño would result in droughts and high temperatures in Southeast Asia. However at this time all national heat records have been broken in Cambodia and Laos, as well as currently coming very close to breaking the heat records in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam. Cambodia: exceeded 1960 record: An absolute record was broken with 42.6°C at PreahVihea statement April 15. Slightly more than the record set just two days earlier in BanteayAmpil (42.2 ° C April 13). Before this year, the maximum temperature measured in Cambodia was 41.4 ° C in Stung Treng in 1960. Laos: exceeded 1933 record: New record of 42.3°C recorded at Seno April 13. The old record of 42°C to Savannakhet dated from March 1933! Thailand: a minimum temperature of 31.4°C: The national record for the hottest month in Thailand was conducted in Sukhothai April 12th at 44.3°C, almost as hot as the absolute record of 44.5°C observed in Uttaradit April 27, 1960. Vietnam: drought and intense heat in the Mekong Delta: In Vietnam a historic drought (deemed to be the worst in 100 years) has touched the fertile Mekong Delta (and the rest of the mainland Southeast Asia). Until now, the highest measured temperature in the country was 41.8°C in Tuong Duong April 15.
El Niño This heat wave, caused by the El Niño Phenomenon, is exceptional, both by its extension and intensity, but even more by its ferocity. In the past other heat waves raged in early spring in India. In April 2010, the temperature had reached 45°C. For all practical purposes, we invite you to alert your travellers in those regions of the world, regarding particular weather conditions this month.
We invite you to alert your clients travelling in these regions of the world at this time and in the coming weeks about the extreme weather conditions at this time.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your Sales Manager in charge.
Sincerely, Your Focus Asia Team
