Dear Travel Partners,
We are writing to inform you of the recent extreme weather conditions in Myanmar. For the last few weeks, temperatures have been extremely high (around 40 degrees C, and even higher than this in some very dry areas).
3-4 days ago this weather pattern has changed, mostly in the central norther areas such as Mandalay and Sagaing, and the extreme north such as Kachin State and the northern Shan state in particular. In these areas there have been heavy gusts of wind coupled with heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, including some with significant hailstones which have cause some disruption and minor damages.
On 22nd April Kakku was hit by heavy rain and extreme winds, toppling some of the upper parts of chedis and causing some general damage to a number of the site's monuments. Several houses in the area were also damaged. This area has been temporarily closed and thus will not be accessible to visitors for several days. We are pleased to report that all Focus Asia clients are safe and accounted for, however we will continue to monitor the weather conditions and forcasts closely, along with the closure of this region. If you have any questions or would like any more detailed information, please do not hestiate to contact your Sales Manager in charge.
Sincerely,
Your Focus Asia Team
