Emirates airlines announced that a daily service from Dubai to Yangon (RGN) in Myanmar starting from August 3, 2016.

Along with a new service to Hanoi in Vietnam, the Emirates will fly with a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft in a three-class configuration aiming to strengthen its network of destinations in Southeast Asia and offering a new flight option to passengers travelling between Dubai, Hanoi and Yangon.

This new service will expand the airline's network in Southeast Asia to 12 cities in seven countries when it comes online in August.

Flights to Yangon and Hanoi will depart daily from Dubai at 02:50hrs arriving at Yangon International Airport at 11:05hrs. The service will then depart from Yangon at 12:35hrs and arrive at Hanoi's Noi Bai International Airport at 14:50hrs.  The return flight, EK389 will depart Hanoi at 22:50hrs, arriving at Yangon at 00:20hrs the next day. The service will then depart from Yangon at 01:50hrs and arrive at Dubai International Airport at 05:05hrs.

Singapore Airlines and SilkAir Add Flights to Indonesia

Singapore Airlines (SIA) will significantly boost Indonesia services from July this year, with the introduction of daily flights to Surabaya, and an increase in frequency to the capital Jakarta and the resort island of Bali.  Its regional subsidiary SilkAir will also introduce a new link to Semarang and resume flights to Makassar as the two sister business readjust capacity to meet with passenger demand.

The new SIA operated flight between Singapore Changi and Surabaya, the second-largest city in Indonesia and the capital of East Java will see the carrier takeover the operational responsibility of one of the two daily rotations currently offered by SilkAir on the route.  The change and the introduction of a widebodied, 285-seat Airbus A330 will see combined SIA and SilkAir capacity on the route by 48 per cent.
At the same time as this flight switch, SIA will introduce a ninth daily service to Jakarta, and will simultaneously add its fourth daily service to Denpasar (Bali).

SIA will launch a three times weekly link from Singapore Changi Airport to Semarang, the provincial capital of Central Java, from July 29, 2013, and resume services to Makassar, the provincial capital of South Sulawesi, with a three times weekly flight from August 1, 2013.

Thai AirAsia the first LCC to serve Luang Prabang

Laos has finally opened its restricted skies to Thai AirAsia (TAA), which has relentlessly pursued the issue for eight years. The neighbouring state will from March 24th allow the no-frills carrier to operate regular flights from Bangkok to Luang Prabang, with Vientiane a second destination on the horizon.

Laos is the last frontier to be covered by TAA in a subregional league that also includes Cambodia Myanmar and Vietnam. "It's been a long time coming, eight years since asking Laos for the rights to operate flights there,'' chief executive Tassapon Bijleveld said yesterday while announcing the launch
of the Luang Prabang service. Asean's Open Skies policy theoretically obligates member states to allow airlines of fellow members to operate flights to their countries without barriers, but Laos has largely been reluctant to do so.

New Yangon Airport Terminal to open in March

Yangon International Airport's new wing will open on March 12 according to the Eleven Media's report.
Quoting the Ministry of Transport, the report said some airlines will be moved to the new terminal, three-storey building cost US$660 million.

It will house an arrival hall for some international flights on the first floor, while the other floors will serve as a shopping centre for travellers since the whole expansion project seeks to accommodate up to 2.7 million travellers per year.

The Yangon International Airport expansion project started in August 2014, and an opening ceremony will be held sometime before the announced opening date.
