Newsflash: Bad weather means no cruising on Halong Bay, Vietnam
30th July 2015

Dear Travel Partners,
A lingering low-pressure area has triggered floods, landslides and rough seas in northern Vietnam, killing at least 17 people in Quang Ninh and sinking two fishing boats near Ha Long Bay, therefore no cruising is permitted on Halong Bay today. The floods and torrential rain are unprecedented since 1986, according to the Halong local government.
The authorities will provide an update about the situation every day at 8am in the morning and announce their decision whether day/overnight boats are allowed to cruise or not. It is highly likely there will be no cruising permitted tomorrow either due to the severity of the bad weather.
Focus Asia received the following information from Bhaya Cruises today:
"All of our boats and staff are safe and sound, and are now at our docks in Tuan Chau Island, 30 km away from the flooded area." informed Mr Andrej Stein, Director of Operations of Bhaya Cruises, Halong Bay's largest operator."We are joining hands with local boat operators to send support and help to people in affected areas. Working in Halong Bay for more than 2 years, I have not seen any cancellation of cruises before, because of rain like this. The cancellations have affected almost 1,000 passengers. Our local delivery supplies are being interrupted by the flood but we hope to resume our normal cruising by the 2nd August."
Rest assured that we will inform all our clients on the spot and offer alternatives. Our office is also informing our tour operator partners who may have clients booked for day and overnight cruises. For questions and further clarifications, kindly contact your sales manager in-charge.
Sincerely,
Your Focus Asia Team
