Dear Travel Partners,
To avoid massive influx of tourists, the Green Season from May to September offers the best option for visitors to Laos - and fantastic prices...
Our magnificent 4 day 3 night itinerary delves right into the heart of the beautiful UNESCO World Heritage city of Luang Prabang, which was Laos' royal capital city until 1975. The main part of the city consists of four main roads criss-crossing a peninsula between the Nam Khan and Mekong rivers. The city is known for its numerous Buddhist temples and monasteries and every morning hundreds of monks from the various monasteries walk through the streets collecting alms. One of the major landmarks in the city is Wat Phou Si, which sits atop the large, steep hill near the edge of town, from here and at this period you will have the best opportunity to enjoy the magnificence of the surrounding nature.
Visit Wat Xieng Thong, constructed in the fifteenth century, this was is the most important in Luang Prabang, and one of the most important in the entire country. Until the revolution of 1975, it was a royal temple, but during the 1960's it was completely remodeled and redecorated to become the splendid temple we see today.
Take a traditional slow boat along the Mekong River to visit Tam Ting (Pak Ou) Caves, a site of ancient and spiritual significance, with stupas, shrines and over 4,000 figures of Buddha.
The next day, visit a local market then, on your way to the picturesque Kuang Si Waterfalls, stop off and visit the local Hmong and Khamu Hill Tribes; learn about their traditions and the differences between Lao, Khamu and Hmong culture. On the way back, visit Ock Pop Tok, set in a tropical Mekong garden it opens doors to learning about Lao textiles and crafts. Bringing alive our concept of east meets west, the LCC is a place where you can meet silk weavers, craft artisans and silkworms and learn about textiles.
As the trip draws to a close, you will have the opportunity to assist in the ritual of the "Tak Bat" practice of offering food to the monks in the early morning, before finishing your trip with a half day city tour, visiting Wat Visun and Wat Aham, climbing Phu Si mountain to enjoy the view overlooking the city and taking in the amazing views of the Nam Kan river joining the Mekong.
