The City of Altamonte Springs Special Needs Recreation and the Advisory Board for the Disabled, Inc. provide social and recreational activities at a minimal cost to the mentally and physically challenged population, ages 13 and up, in Altamonte Springs and surrounding communities.

STOP (Saturday Time Out for Parents) Trips
Orlando Science Center | September 6 | 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Pick up and drop off is at Eastmonte Park. All spots are currently filled, but if you would like to be added to the waitlist, please call or email. Cost is $3 per participant. Lunch is provided. Financial assistance is available. Registration for October STOP Trip opens at 9 a.m. on September 29.
 

Ballroom Dance
Registration Begins September 8

The Orlando Chapter of USA Dance is teaching an 8-week workshop on Sundays at Lake Brantley South Gym beginning October 5. Cost is $20. Registration opens at 9 a.m. on September 8. Please register online, call or email to reserve your spot. Space is limited. Financial assistance is available.
 

Bowling

Practices are September 8, 15, 22 and 29 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Altamonte AMF Lanes. Scores are recorded throughout the year. Cost is $2 per game and includes shoes.


Bowling: Special Olympics Competition

Best of luck to our bowlers who are representing Altamonte Recreation in the Special Olympics Area Games competition on Saturday, September 27. More information is available online.
 

Cheerleading
Registration Begins September 8

The Altamonte Sparklers are a group of male and female cheerleaders with special needs who have been training and competing since 2005. Practices are held on Sundays from October to April at 3, 4 or 5 p.m. Registration for new members opens at 9 a.m. on September 8. Please call or email to reserve your spot. Space is limited. Previous members do not need to register.
 

Belly Dancing

Practices are September 10 and 24 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Eastmonte Park.
 

Nightbird Dance
Crazy Hat Dance | September 12
Themed dances are held one Friday a month from 7 to 9 p.m. at Eastmonte Park. Prizes are awarded for dance contest winners, costume contest winners and birthdays. Drinks and light snacks are provided. Cost is $2 per participant and $1 per guest (e.g., parent, caregiver, etc.).
  
Thursday Night Out

Held at Westmonte Park from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Cost is $1 per person. Light refreshments are provided. RSVP for cooking classes one week prior.
