Altamonte Springs Recreation and the Advisory Board for the Disabled, Inc. provide social and recreational activities at a minimal cost to the mentally and physically challenged population, ages 13 and up in Altamonte Springs and surrounding communities. |

On Thursday, September 19, 2013, The City of Altamonte Springs had the opportunity to thank hundreds of volunteers who serve in our departments.
Special Community Services would like to extend and extra big congratulations to Doreen Scribner who received the Special Community Services Award and the School of Oom Yung Doe for being award Service Organization of the Year.
We are so proud to serve with these individuals and the many other FANTASTIC volunteers! It is amazing to see what we accomplish for our special needs community when we work together as a team! THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS FOR BEING AN ESSENTIAL PIECE OF THE PUZZLE!

Volunteer Coaches Needed |
Coaches Needed The Altamonte Sparklers are a group of male and female cheerleaders with special needs who have been training and competing since 2005. Practices are held on Sundays during October-April at Lake Brantley HS South. Click here to watch a short video

Cheer Camp Canceled
2013 Cheer Camp has been canceled, but opportunities to take part in mini-workshops are still available throughout the year. Athletes ages 6 and up, whether they are on the Sparklers team or not, will get to learn cheer skills from local guests and dancers. Contact us to find out dates of the mini-workshops.

S.T.O.P. TRIPS | |
"Saturday Time Out for Parents"
STOP Trips take place one Saturday a month and are socially, physically and educationally beneficial field trips. Cost: $3 per person with lunch provided. Drop off and pick up is at Eastmonte Park. *Feel free to send souvenir money for trips. Financial Assistance available and space is limited.

Saturday, October 12, from 8am - 7pm Register on Friday, October 4.
Lunch and snacks will be provided, but participants should plan on bringing money for snacks and/or dinner.

ADDED DAY TRIP | |
Free performance from "Voices of Joy"
"Voices of Joy" is a high energy music and dance experience for audiences of all ages. Enjoy a wide variety of musical styles and genres as they share their Voices of Joy with you! This show is open to our Special Needs Recreation participants and volunteers at no cost, with transportation provided. Show will be held on Thursday, November 14 at Willow Creek Church in Winter Springs.
3:00 pm Meet at Eastmonte Park for transportation 4:30 pm Show time 6:30 pm Dinner at McDonalds (bring money for dinner) 8:00 pm Pick up at Eastmonte Park

NIGHTBIRD DANCES | |
Halloween Masquerade
Join us Friday, October 25, at Eastmonte Park from 7 - 9pm. Cost is $2 per participant and $1 per guest. Drinks and light snacks will be provided. Prizes awarded for dance contest winners, costume contest winners & birthdays! If you have a group home or a large party, please call in advance and we will reserve your group a table(s).

BOWLING PRACTICES | |
Practice is held every Monday at the Altamonte AMF Lanes from 3 - 5pm. Cost is $2 per game. Scores are recorded throughout the year and trophies will be awarded at the banquet.

Special Olympics Eligibility Altamonte Recreation Bowling is an approved site for Special Olympics Bowling. Good Luck to our bowlers who will compete in State Games in November.

THURSDAY NIGHT OUT | |
Westmonte Park from 7:30-8:30pm
"Thursday Night Outs" are held on the 3rd and 4th Thursday of the month at Westmonte Park from 7:30-8:30pm. Cost: $1.00 with refreshments included.

BALLROOM DANCE | |
