With sadness we announce the transition of Sista Akua Weekes. She was been laid to rest before this newsletter was published. A Community Memorial Service has been planned and we shall keep you posted.
"I am personally grateful for meeting Dr. Akua Weekes. I met her while a temp secretary working at Lehman Brothers in early 1990s. I saw Dr. Akua walking down the aisle with beautiful Ankh earrings crafted by Baaba Heru Ankh Ra Semahj. I noticed them and told her I wanted to go learn about the culture of those earrings. She invited me to attend a Khamitiks 101 class at the Shrine of Ptah on Bowery Street. It was from those courses that learned about the ancient African High Culture and took on the life style and cultural name as a result. I went in as Yvonne Hankins and came out Sista Shai Meshkhenet Aten-Ra. I'm so grateful to have met Dr. Akua Weekes and will miss her dearly. I'm sure she would want us to continue to reach one and teach one, as I am a prime example of her doing so."
Condolences to her immediate family and the community at large. A candle has been lit on her behalf as she journeys in the afterlife. We send you much Love or "MERRRRRH"

We are thankful for all the support we have received in 2015 thus far. Special thanks to everyone who support the Chapter's Great American MeatOut on March 21 - 22, 2015. The Chapter made new friends at the Veggie Parade on March 29th in the Village. Special thanks to Ms. Pamela Rice for allowing us to share literature and wellness product samples with the attendees. Kweisi & Shai attended this event on behalf of the Chapter for the first time. Dr. Natural was speaker amongst so many wonderful speakers of the day. Ms. Rice has done an awesome job of running and organizing this event for 25 years and shortly she will pass the mantel on. She is also the author of "101 Reasons I'm a Vegetarian." We also had the pleasure of participating in Sigma Phi Rho Community Health Fair. We also attended the Frederick E. Samuel Democratic Club in Harlem. We were only able to get one photo of Solomon Hicks, young protege of BB King. We definitely appreciated everyone's support at the African Intl Arts Festival during the Memorial Day Weekend. We were only able to capture 26 photos but the season is just beginning, no worries !!! The first 26 photos will be of the African Intl Arts Festival.

For those who have not met the Chapter's Sensational Seniors of the Bronx & Harlem, see their fabulous photo below. Their monthly Reflexology Parties are hosted in the Bronx by Mother Marlene Perrineau and in Harlem by Mother Marva Nelson. They receive reflexology & shoulder massage treatments from Sista Shai who is very, very proud of their progress. They are already quite active but now that their legs and health are stronger, there is no catching up to this bunch !! They do Latin Dance, travel abroad together and support one another in their wellness:

Sista Deborah is quite active in Chapter Outreach events with her Reflexology and White Sage supplies. She is a Priestess in the Khamitic and Yoruba tradition. She is a Certified Yoga Teacher and Certified Holistic Health Practitioner. She will be participating in the Great Day of Harlem event on July 26, 2015.

Kundalini Yoga Deep Relaxation with Extended Gong Every 1st and 3rd Thursdays
A sacred space has been created for you to learn the science of Kundalini Yoga right here in the Northeast Bronx
Every Thursday, come and take part in a Kundalini Yoga class. Every 1st and 3rd Thursday, as a part of that class, come and experience the healing benefits of the gong.
Pranayama (breathwork), kriya (a series of exercises), deep relaxation and meditation are all a part of the experience.
All ability levels are welcome.
Note: Do RSVP
Wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing and a head covering, preferably white. Bring a mat and water. There are some mats available for $1 rental. Mats and Water are available for purchase.

Teachers, Retirees and YOU! Power Thirty...
Tuesdays and Thursdays 11:00 am to 12:00 pm
This class is geared toward teachers at schools in the immediate area, retirees and YOU! It's a thirty minute power class that includes a warm-up at 11:00 AM. The class begins at 11:15 with pranayama (breath work) followed by a Kundalini Yoga Kriya (exercise set with specific focus), relaxation and meditation. Class ends at 11:45. Short. Sweet. Powerful.
Suitable for all levels, go at your own pace, but challenge yourself!
We begin with pranayama (breathwork), followed by a Kundalini Yoga Kriya (exercise set with a specific focus). There will be deep relaxation and a meditation. These 90 minute classes are also appropriate for all ability levels.

MutShat Shemsut/Gianprem is a Ra Sekhi Kemetic Reiki Master, Teacher, Level 3, Reiki having studied with Master Teacher Rekhit Kajara Assata Nebthet in Oakland, California. She is also a certified Kundalini Yoga teacher. After eight years of practice, she began study with Krishna Kaur in Los Angeles, receiving her Level 1 certification in 2008. Level 2 certifications were acquired under lead trainer Gurucharan Singh Khalsa in Espanola, New Mexico and at Kundalini Yoga East in New York, with Sat Jivan Singh and Sat Jivan Kaur. She is a certified Y.O.G. A. for Youth teacher. I really miss Roxxi. We share this photo of Roxxi with her owner, Betty Clarke, who furnishes many of the videos for this column as her way to healing of Roxxi's passing. The Temple of Anu has begun making preparations for our annual retreat experience, starting by adding a day to our weekend retreat! This extra time will allow us greater opportunities to meditate, commune with Nature, invoke the Neteru (Divine forces), enjoy vegetarian cuisine prepared with fresh produce from the on-site organic garden, recharge our spiritual batteries, and deepen our connection to the Legacy of our Ancestors.
