ASICS Launches Vegan Running Shoe for 2015
Popular athletic shoe company, ASICS, has introduced a new vegan running shoe as part of its winter 2015 collection. Made with faux leather and suede-plus eco-friendly mesh and rubber-the Gel-Lyte V is the latest cruelty-free shoe to be offered by the manufacturer. The shoes are available now in stores and online throughout the United States, and come in navy blue/burgundy and black/tan. The company has long marked any vegan shoe with an "N" in the product code.

Black History is not taught in many schools so it is the community's responsibility to pass on our very rich history. This history builds character as well as shows our creativity as a people. It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Nneka Makeda Fritz, daughter of Mama Asantewaa Harris. While on a tour bus in Panama, was in an accident.
Mama Asantewaa is an active Chapter Member. We are asking practitioners to offer wellness services to Mama Asantewaa and Nneka's siblings to assist them during this very critical time. The arrangements are as follows:

For those who have not met the Chapter's Sensational Seniors of the Bronx & Harlem, see their fabulous photo below. Their monthly Reflexology Parties are hosted in the Bronx by Mother Marlene Perrineau and in Harlem by Mother Marva Nelson. They receive reflexology & shoulder massage treatments from Sista Shai who is very, very proud of their progress. They are already quite active but now that their legs and health are stronger, there is no catching up to this bunch !! They do Latin Dance, travel abroad together and support one another in their wellness:

Special Presentation by SaladMaster
Due to popular demand, the SaladMaster organization will present a healthy 5-course meal free of oils, salt & water. These presentations are to show that food can be tasty and filling without salt & grease and excess boiling. Below are the upcoming dates and each seating is limited to 10 persons, from 3p - 6:30p on Sundays. We get many calls requesting healthy food preparation from those who are not quite ready to become vegetarian, vegans or raw foodist but want some healthier alternatives. For those who still ingest Chicken, fish or may be vegan, let us know so the menu can be prepared accordingly by the Chefs. You will also learn the importance of proper cookware. Below are the upcoming dates that will transpire in Queens. These sessions must begin promptly as the Chefs have other demonstrations following after our presentation. UPDATE: On March 20 @ 8a - 11a, Heru Kweisi will be conducting Holistic Grocery Store & Farmers' Market Shopping Tour. Many have requested guidance on what to buy, how to read labels, where to buy, understanding the bar codes on fruits and identifying MSG & Aspartame in food labeling. The first stop on our Tour will be the Whole Foods Store on Houston Street as a Farmers Market. The fee for the day will be $20 and you are encouraged to bring some shopping funds to get any essentials you may want to buy.

Elgabrowny, a co-conspirator convicted in the Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman terrorism case; Charles Price, a black man convicted on civil rights charges for inciting the attack on a Hasidic Jew during the Crown Heights racial violence in 1991; Rudy Fleming, convicted in the 2005 shooting death of Nicole duFresne, an actress and playwright, on the Lower East Side; the undercover detective in the Sean Bell case, former Brooklyn Democratic leader Clarence Norman, and former Bronx state senator Larry Seabrook. Ricco has represented dozens of defendants in death penalty cases in New York and in federal court. He clerked for the late Judge Bruce Wright and later was counsel for the NYS Assembly Banking Committee before entering private practice.
The Jordan Journal is a current events-driven program that is committed to a cross-fertilization of ideas between people of color and the progressive community in the United States. Why I Participate:
I am walking for my best friend, Monica Renee Jones. Since she has been diagnosed with MS, she has been fighting it with confidence, faith and courage for herself, her family and friends. She is my inspiration. I am going to walk with her until victory is won - help her and others end MS. Each step we take brings us closer to ending MS forever. That's why I registered for Walk MS.

About MS
Multiple sclerosis, an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system, interrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment are moving us closer to a world free of MS. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with at least two to three times more women than men being diagnosed with the disease. MS affects more than 2.3 million worldwide.

Vegan Chick'n Coconut Curry Recipe
Yield: 4 servings
Preparation time: 15 min
Cooking time: 15 mintotal time: 30 min
Ingredients:
- 1 Tbspolive or coconut oil
- 1 pkg Gardein Teriyaki Chick'n Strips (no sauce)
- 1 Tbsp curry powder
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp ginger root, grated & peeled
- 3 Tbs pred curry paste
- 14 oz tin coconut milk
- 3 cups bite-sized pieces broccoli florets
- 2 cups cooked basmati rice
- 2 Tbsp lime juice, divided
- 1/4 cup cilantro, chopped
Preparation
Heat heavy frying pan over medium-high heat. Add oil to coat pan. Toss gardein chick'n strips in curry powder before adding to warmed frying pan. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until well caramelized and crisp. Remove to a platter.
Add garlic and ginger to a saucepan and gently stir fry for 1 minute. Careful not to burn. Whisk in curry paste and coconut milk before bringing sauce to a boil. Stir in broccoli florets, reduce heat, and simmer for 5 minutes.
Add gardein chick'n to saucepan and gently stir to coat in sauce. Serve on a bed of rice drizzled with a little lime juice and chopped cilantro.
