Greetings!

According to the lunar calendar, the Chinese year of the Goat (Sheep) 2015 will start on February 19, 2015. What lies in wait for you this year?

The Sheep is Yin energy, a symbol of Peace, Harmonious co-existence and Tranquility. That is the primary and fundamental mood for this year. The Sheep is the symbol of the Arts...it relates to passive and nurturing times. For those who trust in goodness, happiness and success will follow.

Please join us in welcoming licensed acupuncturist Aiden Seraphim to Dr. Dan's Natural Healing Center! Aiden is available for Nutrition & Acupuncture appointments at Dr. Dan's beginning in January.

Also, read below for our upcoming events this month and our $30 Acupuncture Special during the month of January.

Dr. Dan's Welcomes Aiden Seraphim, LAc

Aiden Seraphim is a Licensed Acupuncturist who recently relocated from Portland, Oregon to Newburyport.  He has experience treating individuals of all ages dealing with stress, trauma and chronic disease, and specializes in working with patients who suffer from pain (including motor vehicle accidents), addiction issues, emotional and physical disorders causing poor digestion and insomnia, as well as chronic diseases.

Aiden studied Classical Chinese Medicine and received a Master of Science in Oriental Medicine (MSOM) from The National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon in 2012.

"I constantly find myself in awe each time I witness the profound effect of this medicine to connect, balance and shift a person's entire being, from their physiology to their emotional and spiritual experience. I have always been drawn to the textures, layers and intersections between spirit and matter within the human body. The healing journey is a deeply personal experience and having the opportunity to participate in this process is an enormous privilege."

In addition to Classical Chinese Medicine, Aiden has a passion for nutrition; he has completed advanced training in both Nutrition Response Testing & the Morphogenic Field Technique.

Aiden spends his free time doing yoga, meditation, and connecting to nature. He is available for Nutrition & Acupuncture appointments at Dr. Dan's beginning in January.

From Dr. Dan's Kitchen: Apricot Zingers with Jalapeño and Bacon

Whether you are hosting a New Year's Day brunch or any celebration, you can never go wrong with bacon! We served these as appetizers to our family on Christmas Day and they disappeared fast.

You can also try other variations such as wrapping the bacon around jalapenos stuffed with cream cheese & garlic...OR around dates stuffed with almonds and blue cheese.

Ingredients:
  • 20 dried apricots
  • 2-3 organic jalapeños sliced into 1 X 1/4 inch pieces
  • 10 bacon slices (pastured & nitrate-free preferred)
  • 20 strong toothpicks
Instructions:

Partially cook bacon slices, then cut each piece in half (can be done ahead of time and refrigerate until ready to use). Preheat the oven to 400ºF and adjust the rack to the middle position. Line a baking sheet with unbleached parchment paper.

Slice each apricot horizontally down the side so that it will open like a book. Place a jalapeño slice inside the apricot, wrap the apricot in a piece of the partially cooked bacon.
Secure it with a toothpick, and place it on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with remaining ingredients.

Bake for 10 minutes. Using a pair of tongs, flip the zingers and bake 5 to 10 minutes more, or until the bacon is golden brown. Serve immediately. Yummy!!
