Important Notice - Electric Aggregation Year 2

Northern Illinois Governmental Electric Aggregation Consortium (NIGEAC), which includes the Village of Huntley, is pleased to report that they have secured a new rate for the second year of the aggregation program with Direct Energy.  The rate of 4.9867 cents per kWh continues to be lower than ComEd's.

Residents should expect to receive a letter from NIGEAC / Direct Energy with the July 2013 - June 2014 rate and several options:

  • If you have been part of the Village's Electric Supply Program and wish to continue - do nothing and you will automatically continue with the program.
  • If you were not part of the program in 2012-2013 and wish to participate in the Village's reduced electric supply rate program - do nothing and you will automatically be enrolled.
  • If you opted out of the program last year and wish to opt-out again then complete and sign the form and mail it back no later than June 21st (must have a June 21st postmark).  The address is provided on the letter.

We are pleased to have made this program possible and ask that you contact Direct Energy at 866-760-6040 with any questions.

McHenry County 2040 Long Range Transportation Update

McHenry County is in the process of updating the 2040 Long Range Transportation Plan and is seeking public input regarding various highway, transit, and bike path and pedestrian projects.  To assist with this process, the County has established a web site, www.2040mchenrycountyplan.org that allows the public to rank proposed projects by County Board District.

Projects impacting Huntley are included in Districts 5 and 6.  Projects identified include the extension of commuter rail service to Huntley and the western extension of Algonquin Road to Coyne Station Road.  The County is accepting input until June 18th, so please take a few minutes to visit the County's web site and rank these and other transportation projects throughout the County.

Prevent Car Burglaries - Lock Your Car

squad car graphic

With summer upon us, many people often leave their vehicles with windows open and doors unlocked. The Huntley Police Department strongly urges you to secure your vehicle at all times. Car burglaries are a crime of opportunity and can be prevented. Please do not leave any personal or valuable items in your vehicle, and always lock your vehicle.

Targeted items include:

  • global positioning units (GPS)
  • satellite radios
  • stereo face plates
  • cell-phones
  • laptop computers
  • I-pods / MP3 players
  • wallets and purses & contents / boxes / gifts / packages
  • coats / jackets
  • cash (bills or coins - any amount)

Leaving electronic accessories and items of value in view can also lead to theft. Accessory items include: power cords, mounting brackets, or similar items that indicate small electronics may be in the vehicle. Any indication that electronics exist can be an invitation for a burglar.

Police Departments often find that burglars/offenders have removed social security cards, check books, credit cards, and other confidential pieces of information from the glove compartments of the victim's vehicles. These types of documents should never be stored inside a vehicle.

A car burglary takes only a few seconds and can be very costly to the owner. Dial 911 to report any suspicious people, vehicles, or activity. Call the Huntley Police Department non-emergency number with any questions at 847-515-5311.

Please remember that car burglaries can be prevented!!

Watch Severe Weather Video

The Huntley Police Department has created a helpful video to assist residents in planning and preparing for severe storm related situations.  You will learn about the early warning system, criteria for siren activation, what to do when you hear a siren, and other important safeguards such as owning NOAA weather alert radios. The Village encourages all residents to review the short 5 minute video.
