Resilient and Responsive Health Systems (RRHS) Initiative (HRSA)
Deadline: August 5, 2016
This RRHS Initiative seeks to address fundamental health systems constraints that impede the availability of and access to quality health services by supporting the implementation of countries' national health strategies and recovery plans to respond to emerging epidemics, prevent, manage and control HIV and other diseases, and improve population health outcomes. Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women's Health (NIH) Deadline: October 6, 2016 Programs will support mentored research career development of junior faculty members, known as BIRCWH Scholars, who have recently completed clinical training or postdoctoral fellowships, and who will be engaged in interdisciplinary basic, translational, behavioral, clinical, and/or health services research relevant to women's health, and, where appropriate, the use of both sexes to better understand the influence of sex as a variable on health and disease. SAMHSA/CSAP 2016 Prevention Fellowship Deadline: August 12, 2016 The overarching purpose of the fellowship program is to develop and sustain a well-trained and knowledgeable cadre of prevention professionals who understand and exemplify the principles and best practices of reducing substance use disorders. In addition to building competencies in diverse areas of public health, behavioral health, and allied health practices, fellows have opportunities to develop critical research, writing, evaluation, and presentation skills within a structured training program. We are looking for topics addressing identity as it relates to the intersectionality of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, culture, age, religion, language, nativity, and location specific to our clients, communities, policies and our profession. Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Brief - What if More States Expanded Medicaid in 2017? Changes in Eligibility, Enrollment, and the Uninsured
Under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), states can expand Medicaid eligibility for nonelderly adults with incomes up to 138 percent of the federal poverty level (FPL). As of May 2016, 19 states had not expanded Medicaid. We estimate that 4.8 million uninsured people would gain Medicaid eligibility if the remaining 19 states were to expand Medicaid. NPR - Treating The Police, Fearing The Police: Dallas Surgeon Brian Williams Reflects
When injured police officers started arriving at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas on the night of July 7, Dr. Brian Williams was there to treat them. As a trauma surgeon, he treats all patients the same. As a black man, he acknowledged his own complicated feelings about law enforcement during a press conference on Monday.
