Call for Author Nominations AHRQ Roundtable on Health Literacy of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine Deadline: July 29, 2016
The Roundtable is seeking to examine how health care quality measures related to health literacy, cultural competence, and language access could be better integrated and then incorporated into ongoing efforts to develop value-based outcomes and payment strategies. The Roundtable is currently seeking nominations for individuals who could author the first commissioned paper. The author will identify measures, assess their rigor and current use, and propose an integrated approach to measurement of health literacy, cultural competence, and language access. Health and Medicine Division Report - Advancing Health Equity for Native American Youth: Workshop Summary
Many of the serious behavioral, emotional, and physical health concerns facing young people today are especially prevalent with Native youth (e.g., depression, violence, and substance abuse). Arrayed against these health problems are vital cultural strengths on which Native Americans can draw. At a workshop held in 2012 by the Roundtable on the Promotion of Health Equity and the Elimination of Health Disparities of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, presenters described many of these strengths, including community traditions and beliefs, social support networks, close-knit families, and individual resilience. National Institute on Aging Report - Aging Well in the 21st Century: Strategic Directions for Research on AgingTo reduce the burden of illness, enhance quality of life, and maintain health among older adults, we must first understand the aging contexts for illness and health.
