Understanding and Promoting Health Literacy (NIH)

The goal of this program announcement is to encourage methodological, intervention and dissemination research for understanding and promoting health literacy. Health literacy is defined as the degree to which individuals have the capacity to obtain, process, and understand basic health information and services needed to make appropriate health decisions. University of Maryland Postdoctoral Fellowship in Preventive Mental Health Research
Deadline: June 15, 2016, or until filled
The University of Maryland School of Social Work is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to join a research team conducting basic and clinical research related to risk and protective factors, with a focus on the prevention of psychosis and suicide. The postdoctoral fellow will work primarily to analyze data, collaborate on empirical papers to submit to leading journals, develop grant proposals, and take an active role in ongoing prevention and early intervention research projects. The fellowship is a 24-month, full-time appointment, providing time, space, and mentoring to develop early career scholarship. Click here for more information.

2016  Solution Focused Brief Therapy Association (SFBTA) Research Award

The SFBTA Research Award aims at fostering the growth of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy by encouraging original research in solution-focused practices, and to support students or practitioners who wish to study solution-focused practices. The 2016 SFBTA Research Award will provide up to $2200 to support ongoing or proposed studies conducted by doctoral or master level students, practitioners where SF practices are the focus of their work, post-doctoral fellows and junior faculty who are in their first three years past graduation. AMERSA seeks abstract submissions of recent substance use-related research and education innovations. Abstracts for the 2016 AMERSA National Conference may be submitted to one of three categories: 1) Research - These abstracts report on original research and must include methods, data analyses, and results; 2)Program and Curricula Evaluation - These abstracts report on evaluations of innovative programs and/or education curricula and must include methods, data analyses, and results; 3) Clinical Case Presentations - These abstracts describe an illustrative case that reinforces specific learning objectives for substance use and medical education. ICPSR Webinar - Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health (PATH) Study: Understanding the Data 
May 10, 2016 - 1:00-2:00 PM EDT 
The PATH Study is a collaboration between the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Center for Tobacco Products (CTP), Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It is a household-based, nationally representative, longitudinal cohort study of 46,000 adults and youth (12-17 years old) in the United States. The study was launched in 2011 to inform FDA's regulatory activities under the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act that was signed into law in 2009. This webinar will describe the background of the study, describe how to find and access the data through ICPSR, and discuss future data collections. Click here for more information.

The Promises and Perils of Digital Strategies in Achieving Health Equity: Workshop Summary
The Roundtable on the Promotion of Health Equity and the Elimination of Health Disparities held a workshop focusing on the use of digital health technologies to improve health outcomes for racial and ethnic minority populations, how community engagement can improve access to high-quality health information for members of these groups, and  on models of successful technology-based strategies to reduce health disparities.
