Special Issue of Families in Society - Homelessness: Service Needs, Prevention, and Intervention
Deadline: December 1, 2015
The American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare recently issued a grand challenge calling upon the social work profession to end homelessness. Yet, while homeless people are those at highest risk across categories of concern, they remain outside of core service delivery. Both practice wisdom and research are key to better understanding the service needs of people who are marginally housed and homeless. Policy, program, and practice solutions can then be developed to respond to service needs, resulting in more stabilized functioning and well-being. Click here for more information.

Special Issue of Journal of Social Work in End-of-Life and Palliative Care -  Pain Issues in Palliative Care and End of Life: Expanding the Social Work Role
Deadline: January 15, 2016
Pain and/or the fear of pain is often experienced by patients receiving palliative care and those facing end of life. Failure to address the multidimensional sources of pain and related suffering can produce emotional and moral distress for both personal and professional care providers. Disparities continue in access to quality pain management, and too few providers feel well-prepared to care for those with complicated pain concerns. For this special thematic issue, manuscripts are encouraged that report on original research, including systematic literature reviews and meta-analyses, policy analysis, program evaluation, innovative educational programs, and evaluated community interventions. Manuscripts must specifically relate to palliative and/or end-of-life care topics in pain/symptom management for serious illness. ChildTrends Research Brief - What Works for Bullying Programs: Lessons from Experimental Evaluations of Programs and Interventions
The most commonly accepted definition of bullying is that it is a form of unprovoked, aggressive behavior that involves a real or perceived power imbalance and is either repeated or has the potential to be repeated over time.1 This brief synthesizes findings from experimental evaluations of 17 bullying programs for children and/or youth to determine how frequently these programs work to improve the outcomes of physical and verbal bullying, social and relational bullying, bullying victimization, attitudes toward bullying, and being a bystander of bullying. Most of these programs served school-aged children; only two focused on children age five or younger. Click here for more information.
