Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Research Network on Pregnancy-Related Care Program (HRSA)

The National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) is soliciting investigator-initiated research that will help expand and advance knowledge in three areas: 1) how best to disseminate, implement, and translate evidence-based primary prevention strategies, programs, and policies designed to reduce youth violence; 2) what works to prevent violence by rigorously evaluating primary prevention strategies, programs, and policies; and 3) research to determine ways to effectively prevent serious and lethal interpersonal or self-directed violence. National Research Center on Hispanic Children and Families Summer Graduate Research Fellowship

The goal of the summer research fellowship program is to attract, develop, and expand the pool of emerging scholars focused on studying issues of relevance to low-income and vulnerable Hispanic children and families. We also want to provide advanced graduate students with the opportunity to see how rigorous research is done in a nonacademic environment and in ways that can have an impact on programmatic and policy issues of relevance to Hispanic children and families. Signature Employment Grants are awarded nationally to fund new pilot initiatives, demonstration projects or social ventures that lead to the generation of new ideas to solve the high unemployment and underemployment of individuals with disabilities. Preference is given for interventions that overcome specific employment barriers related to long-term dependence on public assistance, advance competitive employment in a cost-effective manner, or launch a social enterprise or individual entrepreneurship project, but are not limited to these ideas. Asian and Pacific Islanders Social Work Education Association Doctoral Fellowship
Deadline: April 30, 2015
The Asian and Pacific Islander Social Work Educators Association (APISWEA) has established two doctoral fellowships for Asian and Pacific Islander doctoral students. These fellowships will fund two doctoral students to attend the CSWE APM in 2015 in Denver, Colorado. Awardees must present their dissertation proposal at the annual APISWEA annual meeting during the CSWE APM. The objectives of these fellowships are: (1) to encourage doctoral students to share their current doctoral dissertation proposals with their colleagues and peers; and (2) to support doctoral students to attend CSWE APM. Special Issue of Children and Youth Services Review - The Economic Causes and Consequences of Child Maltreatment
Deadline: February 20, 2015

The articles included in this issue should empirically address one of three areas: (1) the causal role of income and material resources in child maltreatment behaviors or involvement in the child welfare system at any level; (2) the role of prevention in mediating the effects of poverty on child maltreatment behaviors or involvement with child welfare services; or (3) the effects of maltreatment, child protective services involvement, and/or foster care placement on later educational, employment, and other economic outcomes. Special Issue of the Journal of Social Work in End-of-Life and Palliative CareEthical Issues at the End of Life

Ethical practice is a hallmark of excellent palliative care that occurs throughout the illness trajectory and at the end of life. A range of bio-psychosocial elements of the illness experience (diagnosis, treatment, caregiving) can raise ethical issues and problems that affect individuals, their caregivers, family members, friends, and health care professionals. For this special thematic issue, manuscripts are encouraged that report on original research, including systematic literature reviews (topics not previously well-covered in current literature) and meta-analyses, policy analysis, case studies with analysis of ethical problems, innovative educational programs and evaluated individual, family and community interventions. Due to the aging of the population, families increasingly provide the bulk of care provided to individuals who are nearing end of life. A range of psychosocial issues can influence the illness experience, not only for those individuals, but also for the family caregivers. For this special thematic issue, manuscripts are encouraged that report on original research, including systematic literature reviews and meta-analyses, policy analysis, program evaluation, innovative educational programs, and evaluated community interventions. Cases may be presented that demonstrate effective interventions. Manuscripts must specifically relate to palliative and/or end-of-life care topics in related to family caregiving and may focus on specific populations or care settings. The Commonwealth Fund Issue Brief - The Rise in Health Care Coverage and Affordability Since Health Reform Took Effect
New results from the Commonwealth Fund Biennial Health Insurance Survey, 2014, indicate that the Affordable Care Act's subsidized insurance options and consumer protections reduced the number of uninsured working-age adults from an estimated 37 million people, or 20 percent of the population, in 2010 to 29 million, or 16 percent, by the second half of 2014. National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day 

February 7, 2015 marks the 15th year for National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD), a national HIV testing and treatment community mobilization initiative targeted at Blacks in the United States and the Diaspora. The NBHAAD initiative leverages a national platform to educate, bring awareness, and mobilize the African American community. NBHAAD has four key focus areas which encourage people to: get educated about HIV and AIDS; get involved in community prevention efforts; get tested to know their status; and get treated to receive the continuum of care needed to live with HIV/AIDS.
