REMINDER
Creating Asthma Empowerment Collaborations to Reduce Childhood Asthma Disparities (NIH) Deadline: February 20, 2015 The purpose of this FOA is to support investigators planning a clinical trial to evaluate Asthma Care Implementation Programs (ACIP) for chidren at high risk of poor asthma outcomes. Investigators must propose an ACIP for this population that translates research into community practice by integrating interventions with demonstrated efficacy from multiple sectors into a comprehensive program. Each proposed evidence-based intervention within the ACIP must address at least one of the following different sectors that can contribute to a system of care for children: medical care, family, home, and community. Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Research Network on Pregnancy-Related Care Program (HRSA) Deadline: March 2, 2015
The National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) is soliciting investigator-initiated research that will help expand and advance knowledge in three areas: 1) how best to disseminate, implement, and translate evidence-based primary prevention strategies, programs, and policies designed to reduce youth violence; 2) what works to prevent violence by rigorously evaluating primary prevention strategies, programs, and policies; and 3) research to determine ways to effectively prevent serious and lethal interpersonal or self-directed violence. The purpose of the NIJ Research, Evaluation, and Development Project Grants program is to encourage and support research, development, and evaluation to improve criminal justice policy and practice in the United States. With this solicitation, NIJ seeks proposals for innovative, rigorous research to identify and characterize the suicide prevention and intervention strategies currently being used by law enforcement agencies in the United States and, potentially, elsewhere. NIJ is particularly interested in understanding the rationale for the adoption of a particular strategy and what evidence may exist regarding its efficacy. Click here for more information. Special Issue of Social Work Education: The International Journal- Environmental Justice, Green Social Work or Eco Justice: Preparing for Social Work's Growing Involvement
Deadline: January 15, 2015
This special issue seeks to capture the efforts of social workers who are embedded in the realities of environmental degradation and its impact on the well-being of individuals, families, and communities across the globe. Manuscripts that provide documentation of the issue, evidence of an attempted intervention at any system level and the outcome (if it worked or not) are welcomed. Conceptual manuscripts of how to integrate and frame environmental concerns and consequences for vulnerable populations, particularly to students in educational settings, are also invited. Finally, manuscripts with evidence of successful curriculum adaptations to include environmental concerns are welcomed. All manuscripts must provide implications to the education of social workers and the profession, as well aid the international readership of this journal and their understanding of this common problem. Prior research highlights the complex intersections between posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), substance use disorders (SUD), and involvement with the criminal justice system. Despite growing attention to intersections among these experiences, many issues remain unresolved. We invite investigators and practitioners to contribute original research articles as well as review article that will enrich our understanding of PTSD, problematic substance use, lawbreaking activity, and criminal justice involvement. Department of Justice Fact Sheet - Highlights of the 2012 National Youth Gang Survey
This fact sheet provides an overview of the nation's gang problem. In 2012, there were an estimated 30,700 gangs (an increase from 29,900 in 2011) and 850,000 gang members (an increase from 782,500 in 2011) throughout 3,100 jurisdictions with gang problems (down from 3,300 in 2011). The number of reported gang-related homicides increased 20 percent from 1,824 in 2011 to 2,363 in 2012. Click here for more information.
Kaiser Family Foundation Report - Medicaid Home and Community-Based Services Programs: 2011 Data Update
As states continue to implement various aspects of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), developing and expanding home and community-based alternatives to institutional care remains a priority for many state Medicaid programs. This report summarizes the key national trends to emerge from the latest (2011) participant and expenditure data for the three main Medicaid HCBS programs: (1) the mandatory home health services state plan benefit, (2) the optional personal care services state plan benefit, and (3) optional § 1915(c) HCBS waivers. It also briefly discusses the provision of Medicaid HCBS through § 1115 demonstration waivers and highlights findings from a 2013 survey of Medicaid HCBS participant eligibility, enrollment, and provider reimbursement policies.
