Promoting Preventive Health Services for Women (HRSA)
Deadline: July 21, 2014
This announcement solicits applications for the Promoting Preventive Health Services for Women initiative. The purpose of this initiative is to improve women's health across the lifecourse by increasing the use of clinical preventive services. This will be accomplished by: Increasing the number of women enrolled in health insurance; Raising consumer awareness of the importance of clinical preventive services; and Supporting providers in the delivery of quality preventive services. These objectives will be accomplished by a coalition of organizations representing women¿s health care providers who will: Develop and implement strategies to assist uninsured women in obtaining health insurance coverage; Develop and implement strategies to promote awareness among consumers about the importance of clinical preventive services; and Provide information and training to providers to support the quality provision of these services. Veterans: Risk and Needs Assessment Tool and Protocol (DOJ) Deadline: July 30, 2014
The National Institute of Corrections (NIC) is soliciting proposals from organizations, groups, or individuals to enter into a cooperative agreement for a 36-month period to begin no later than September 15, 2014. Work under this cooperative agreement will involve developing a multi-disciplinary advisory committee to assist with reviewing and revising the veteran's needs screening tool and veteran's treatment court risk and needs assessment protocol, along with developing a comprehensive clinical needs screening tool containing factors which will identify combat veterans entering the criminal justice system and those clinical factors that may be most at risk. This tool will be specific to Veterans in the criminal justice system and designed to be a non-proprietary, open source document available to the field. Click here for more information.
Multidisciplinary and Collaborative Research Consortium to Reduce Oral Health Disparities in Children: A Multilevel Approach (NIH)
Deadline: December 9, 2014
The overall goal of this initiative is to establish effective interventions or programs to reduce or eliminate oral health disparities and inequalities in vulnerable U.S. children who are between 0 and 21 years of age. Multidisciplinary teams of investigators will refine and test an intervention or evaluate outcomes of an existing program or policy intended to reduce health disparities and inequalities. Community engagement and other partnerships are essential for the holistic, multilevel approaches required by this FOA. This research is intended to lead to identification, validation, dissemination and implementation of effective approaches to prevent disease or facilitate treatments, helping to reduce and ultimately eliminate oral health disparities and inequalities in children. The Atlantic Philanthropies Practice Change Leaders for Aging and Health

The Practice Change Leaders for Aging and Health Program is a nationally recognized program to develop, support and expand the influence of organizational leaders who are committed to achieving transformative improvements in care for older adults. The program is a fifteen-month opportunity to gain enhanced leadership skills and content expertise to positively influence care for older adults specifically in the areas of transitional care, health services for dually eligible beneficiaries, enhanced primary care (including person-centered medical homes), and accountable care organizations. Applicants must hold a leadership role in a health care delivery organization, health-related institution, or community-based organization with direct responsibility for care that impacts older adults. New Dataset Available - Effects of Intimate Partner Violence on the Workplace in the United States, 2005-2008
This research, which was conducted in two phases, explored the effects of intimate partner violence (IPV) on the workplace between 2005 and 2008. Phase One examined the prevalence of IPV among employed individuals, how IPV affects the personal and professional well-being of employees, and its costs for employers. Phase Two focused more specifically on the interactions between employed IPV victims and their coworkers. Click here for more information.
Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP) National Inpatient Sample (NIS) 2012 Data
The National (Nationwide) Inpatient Sample (NIS) is part of a family of databases and software tools developed for the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP). July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month
Mental illness affects one in four adults and one in ten children in America. The U.S. Surgeon General reports that minorities are less likely to receive diagnosis and treatment for their mental illness, have less access to and availability of mental health services and often receive a poorer quality of mental health care. Furthermore, mental illness is a leading cause of disability, yet nearly two-thirds of people with a diagnosable mental illness do not seek treatment, and racial and ethnic groups in the U.S. are even less likely to get help, according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
