Funding Opportunities
A Best Practices White Paper Specific to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex Juvenile Offenders in Corrections (DOJ)
Deadline: June 30, 2014
The National Institute of Corrections (NIC) is soliciting proposals from organizations, groups, or individuals to enter into a cooperative agreement for a 12-month period to begin no later than August 15, 2014. Work under this cooperative agreement will involve the development of a white paper specific to recommended best practices in the safe and respectful management of the LGBTI juvenile offender population both in custody and on community supervision. Activities associated with this project include, but are not limited to, the convening of a subject matter expert meeting, the review of current literature and research, and interviews with staff and offenders, including within focus groups. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications for Comprehensive Alcohol Research Centers using the P60 mechanism that must include an information dissemination core to initiate and expand community education, related to the overall goal of the center. The overall purpose of the NIAAA Alcohol Research Center program is to provide leadership in conducting and fostering interdisciplinary, collaborative research on a wide variety of topics relevant to the Institute's mission.These topics include, but are not limited to: the nature, etiology, genetics, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of alcohol use disorders and their biomedical, psychosocial, and economic consequences across the lifespan. Special Issue of Evaluation Review - Systematic Reviews and Public Policy

There has been increasing political and fiscal investment by the federal government in evidence-based policy. To support this work there has been a dramatic increase in the number of federal and non-federal systematic reviews of evidence. The overarching goal of many of these reviews is to provide transparent, systematic assessments of the quality of the available evidence of effectiveness of various social, behavioral and medical interventions. These reviews vary in their goals, purpose, procedures, and

This completely updated five-volume reference will provide extensive and current information on the changing world of poverty, as well as insight into the contemporary debates. Over 850 signed articles will explore poverty in various regions of the world, and examine the difficulties associated with the definition and measurement of poverty, along with its causes and effects. This comprehensive project will be published by SAGE Reference in 2015 and will be marketed to academic and public libraries as a print and digital product available to students via the library's electronic services. A Convening on Financial Capability and Asset Building:
Advancing Education, Research and Practice in Social Work
The convening will bring together scholars and educators to examine research and education, and develop the social work agenda in financial capability and asset building (FCAB). Scholarly papers are invited that assess practice and policy roles of social workers in FCAB, examine approaches to teaching FCAB in social work, and inform understanding of reaching vulnerable populations with FCAB policies and programs.
Papers should discuss theoretical and practical implications for social work education, practice, and research related to FCAB in financially vulnerable households and communities. Click here for more information.

Special Issue of the Journal of the Society for Social Work and Research - Social Work Intervention Research

The Journal of the Society for Social Work and Research (JSSWR) announces a special issue dedicated to studies of social work interventions. This issue will broadly define social work interventions to include intentional action strategies designed to promote positive outcomes (or prevent adverse outcomes) among individuals, groups, organizations, or communities served by the social work profession. While all high-quality manuscripts focused on social work intervention research will be considered, we are particularly interested in papers that describe methods and key findings of intervention studies and discuss applications to practice and/or public policy. In addition, we are seeking papers that will contribute to scholarly debate regarding the development and use of methods for carrying out intervention research. Click here for more information.

New Dataset Available - Massachusetts Health Reform Survey, 2007
This data collection comprises data from the second round of the Massachusetts Health Reform Survey (MHRS), a survey designed to track the impact of Massachusetts health care reform legislation passed in late 2006. Topics covered by the survey include health insurance status; specific types of health insurance coverage held by the survey respondents; insurance premiums and covered services for those with insurance; access to and use of health care; out-of-pocket health care costs and medical debt; health and disability status; and demographic and socioeconomic characteristics. The survey also gauged support for the legislation and awareness of its individual mandate. Click here for more information.
OPRE Report - Understanding the Dynamics of Disconnection From Employment and Assistance
The study, Understanding the Dynamics of Disconnection from Employment and Assistance, used interview data from a sample of 51 unmarried mothers from Southeast Michigan and Los Angeles, California, to learn more about their experiences related to work, benefit receipt, and material hardship, their overall well-being, and the economic coping strategies and sources of support they use to manage. This report is based on these qualitative interviews. Analysis of the interview data showed some differences between the samples due to age, location, and immigration status of the respondents, but also striking similarities. Commonwealth Fund Report - The Patient-Centered Medical Home, Electronic Health Records, and Quality of Care
Physician practices that adopt the patient-centered medical home model can achieve modest improvement on quality-of-care measures compared with more traditional practices. Although electronic health records play a central role in the medical home, the new roles and relationships of providers and staff may be even more important in driving quality improvement.
