Nutrition and Alcohol-Related Health Outcomes Grant (NIH)
Deadline: May 7, 2017
This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages applications that propose to examine associations between nutrition and alcohol-related health outcomes in humans and animal models. The goal of this FOA is to stimulate a broad range of research on the role of nutrition in the development, prevention, and treatment of a variety of alcohol-related health outcomes including alcohol use disorder and chronic disease. Research on the Health Determinants and Consequences of Violence and its Prevention, Particularly Firearm Violence (NIH)
Deadline: January 7, 2017
This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) spans across the missions of several NIH Institutes and Centers (ICs) and Offices, and includes basic neuroscience and basic behavioral research, clinical and translational studies, intervention development at the individual, family and community level, efficacy trials of interventions based on evidence from basic and translational studies, and research to identify the best ways to disseminate and implement efficacious and evidence-based interventions in real-world settings. While this FOA covers all of the areas mentioned above, particular consideration will be given to applications that propose studies of the intersection that focus on the various types of violence (homicide, suicide, youth and gang-related, intimate partner) and firearms. Women's Mental Health During Pregnancy and the Postpartum Period (NIH) Deadline: May 7, 2015
The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to outline priority areas for research related to women's mental health during pregnancy and the postpartum period. The NIMH, NICHD, and NIDA are committed to supporting research that will increase scientific understanding of and treatments for mental disorders experienced by women during and following pregnancy.Reduction of the public health burden of mental disorders during this perinatal period will improve the health and well-being of new mothers, their children and families. Rural Veterans Coordination Pilot Grant (Department of Veterans Affairs)
Deadline: October 4, 2013
The Department of Veterans Affairs will award five grants to eligible community-based organizations and local and State government entities to assist veterans and their families who are transitioning from military to civilian life in rural or underserved communities. Academic Research Enhancement Award (NIH) Deadline: September 7, 2016
The purpose of the Academic Research Enhancement Award (AREA) program is to stimulate research in educational institutions that provide baccalaureate or advanced degrees for a significant number of the Nation's research scientists, but that have not been major recipients of NIH support. AREA grants create opportunities for scientists and institutions, otherwise unlikely to participate extensively in NIH research programs, to contribute to the Nation's biomedical and behavioral research effort. AREA grants are intended to support small-scale research projects proposed by faculty members of eligible, domestic institutions, to expose students to meritorious research projects, and to strengthen the research environment of the applicant institution. Soros Justice Advocacy Fellowship

The Soros Justice Fellowships Program's Advocacy Fellowships fund lawyers, advocates, grassroots organizers, researchers, and others with unique perspectives to undertake full-time criminal justice reform projects at the local, state, and national levels. The Open Society Fellowship was founded in 2008 to support individuals pursuing innovative and unconventional approaches to fundamental open society challenges. The fellowship funds work that will enrich public understanding of those challenges and stimulate far-reaching and probing conversations within the Open Society Foundations and in the world. A fellowship project might identify a problem that has not previously been recognized, develop new policy ideas to address familiar problems, or offer a new advocacy strategy.
