Synopsis

Everyone's favorite practically perfect nanny takes the stage in this Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious musical adventure.

One of the most popular Disney movies of all time is capturing hearts in a whole new way: as a practically perfect musical! Based on the books by P.L. Travers and the classic Walt Disney film, Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's Mary Poppins delighted Broadway audiences for over 2,500 performances and received nominations for nine Olivier and seven TONY Awards, including Best Musical.

The jack-of-all trades, Bert, introduces us to England in 1910 and the troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. Using a combination of magic and common sense, she must teach the family how to value each other again. Mary Poppins takes the children on many magical and memorable adventures, but Jane and Michael aren't the only ones she has a profound effect upon. Even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that "Anything can happen if you let it."

Mary Poppins is an enchanting mixture of irresistible story, unforgettable songs, breathtaking dance numbers, and astonishing stagecraft. This show is a perfect opportunity to showcase a strong, iconic female performer, as well as unique special effects and illusions.

PLANNING OUR ARTISTIC FUTURE

FCT's Artistic Committee will be holding a planning meeting on Saturday, June 20, from 9 AM to noon at the Vint Hill Villages Conference Room at 4263 Aiken Drive. (Please contact Don Richardson if you need further directions). All FCT members who would like to help update our artistic planning process are cordially invited to attend. The results of this meeting will guide the Committee in planning upcoming seasons, so your input is greatly valued and needed.

Some of the questions we will address are:  What are our artistic goals? What types of shows do we want to include in our main seasons? What other events do we want to offer as "extras"? What audiences are we trying to serve? How many shows per year can we do without sacrificing quality? Does our current rehearsal and performance calendar work, or would other alternatives work better? How do we continue to provide significant opportunities for  young people to be involved with theatre? What additional means are available to market our shows to a wider audience?  What kind of partnerships with other performing arts organizations can we create?

Please think about all of these questions and join us on June 20th.  If you are unable to attend, please give your suggestions to Artistic Chairman Don Richardson (artistic_chairman@fctstage.org) in advance so he can include your ideas in the discussion. If you are planning to attend, please RSVP to Don so he knows how much coffee and pastry to bring.

The FCT Executive Committee is seeking members to join us in developing new opportunities through formation of a Fundraising and Development Committee.  FCT has done very well in being rated a Priority 1 non-profit for funding by the Virginia Commission for the Arts over the past couple of years and has received very worthy grant awards.  We have developed a body of core information on FCT, developed a strategic plan, and have been increasing our efforts to submit more grants and the associated award opportunities.  We are not asking you to go it alone.  Effective fundraising and development is a team activity.  Please consider joining our team to help expand the opportunities of FCT and have some fun doing it.  It is very rewarding to receive a grant after investing just a few days of your personal time.  If you would be interested in joining the FCT Fundraising and Development Committee, please contact Mike Markley, FCT Chairman at
