The Hilarious, Heart-Warming, Spine-Tingling,
Award-Winning Musical Tale of the Ugly Duckling

A Musical with a Message
Many fairy tales and fables involve an underlying message and sometimes that message is to not judge people because of their outward appearances. One of the classics is Hans Christian Andersen's "The Ugly Duckling". The musical Honk!, based on that touching story, offers toe-tapping tunes that will bring you laugh out loud laughter and also bring you to a place of tears as this important message about bullying is portrayed. The message is strong but comes across in a light hearted way.

The story revolves around a cygnet whose egg hatches in the nest of a duck mother, and so is called Ugly as a duckling. Loving mother Ida stands by him and searches for him after he is lured away by an evil cat. The journey Ugly goes on after he leaves introduces him to other creatures and teaches him resilience, strength and an understanding of others. The barnyard animals have both animal and human qualities, and the story has a happy ending.

Before the characters find that happy ending, though, the play has much to say about how to treat people and how some people get pushed into being outsiders.

Dawn Fansler, a veteran at FCT says, "This show is absolutely amazing. The actors have worked really hard to learn all the music in one month. Then they had only one month to learn their lines. Now we are two weeks out and the blocking is set, the songs are being sung, the costumes are being prepared, and we are anxiously awaiting our opening night."

From the frogs with their flippers to the greedy cat awaiting a nice meal, to the Ugly Duckling trying to find his place in the world, this show will not disappoint. This story is not only delightful, but will warm your heart, make you laugh out loud, bring you to tears, and want to make you stand up and cheer.

The show is directed by Scott Heine with musical direction by Margo Heine. It is produced by Dawn Fansler tith choreography by Marianna Lash. FCT is located at 4225 Aiken Drive, Warrenton (in Vint Hill).

Grant-writing Assistance Needed

The FCT Executive Committee is seeking members to join us in developing new opportunities through formation of a Fundraising and Development Committee.  FCT has done very well in being rated a Priority 1 non-profit for funding by the Virginia Commission for the Arts over the past couple of years and has received very worthy grant awards.  We have developed a body of core information on FCT, developed a strategic plan, and have been increasing our efforts to submit more grants and the associated award opportunities.  We are not asking you to go it alone.  Effective fundraising and development is a team activity.  Please consider joining our team to help expand the opportunities of FCT and have some fun doing it.  It is very rewarding to receive a grant after investing just a few days of your personal time.  If you would be interested in joining the FCT Fundraising and Development Committee, please contact Mike Markley, FCT Chairman at Mike@FCTStage.org.

Status of the FCT Theatre Chair Renovations

Things sometimes seem to move slowly in government and non-profits.  The FCT theatre chair renovation has the best of both worlds.  Adding to this challenge is the complication of finding a time to actually do the work in a manner that has the least impact on our season.  We appreciate everyone's contributions and patience.  So, here is the update:  March 2015 was a busy month for FCT and Fauquier County Parks and Recreation (P&R).  We met with both the P&R Theatre Committee and Board.  P&R approved FCT's request to expand the seating capacity with 20 additional regular seats.  We also expect this modification to expand our handicap accessibility.  P&R expects to approve the final specifications for the upgrade in early May.  FCT plans to begin the actual seat replacement in August-September 2015 after the close of Grimm Spectaculathon; therefore, the opening of Mary Poppins will be the first show with the new seating.  If you have any questions, please contact Mike Markley, FCT Chairman at Mike@FCTstage.org.  We are getting close and the clock is ticking.  It is not too late to contribute to the purchase of a chair and be recognized among donors to this project.  If you would like to contribute $100 toward the purchase of a chair, please contact Christie Clark at Christie@FCTStage.org. Your donation is tax deductible and we will provide you with our EIN number and a letter stating your contribution.

Thank you!
