The Hilarious, Heart-Warming, Spine-Tingling,
Award-Winning Musical Tale of the Ugly Duckling
A Musical with a Message
Many fairy tales and fables involve an underlying message and sometimes that message is to not judge people because of their outward appearances. One of the classics is Hans Christian Andersen's "The Ugly Duckling". The musical Honk!, based on that touching story, offers toe-tapping tunes that will bring you laugh out loud laughter and also bring you to a place of tears as this important message about bullying is portrayed. The message is strong but comes across in a light hearted way.
The story revolves around a cygnet whose egg hatches in the nest of a duck mother, and so is called Ugly as a duckling. Loving mother Ida stands by him and searches for him after he is lured away by an evil cat. The journey Ugly goes on after he leaves introduces him to other creatures and teaches him resilience, strength and an understanding of others. The barnyard animals have both animal and human qualities, and the story has a happy ending.
Before the characters find that happy ending, though, the play has much to say about how to treat people and how some people get pushed into being outsiders.
Dawn Fansler, a veteran at FCT says, "This show is absolutely amazing. The actors have worked really hard to learn all the music in one month. Then they had only one month to learn their lines. Now we are two weeks out and the blocking is set, the songs are being sung, the costumes are being prepared, and we are anxiously awaiting our opening night."
From the frogs with their flippers to the greedy cat awaiting a nice meal, to the Ugly Duckling trying to find his place in the world, this show will not disappoint. This story is not only delightful, but will warm your heart, make you laugh out loud, bring you to tears, and want to make you stand up and cheer.
The show is directed by Scott Heine with musical direction by Margo Heine. It is produced by Dawn Fansler tith choreography by Marianna Lash. FCT is located at 4225 Aiken Drive, Warrenton (in Vint Hill).
