D'var Torah
One of my joys is when my children prepare dinner or bake a cake or some other treat without my supervision; it is wonderful to come home from minyan and have dinner ready to go. Of course, the good feelings are dampened a little by the piles of dirty dishes in the sink and the bowls and utensils scattered on the counters. Somewhere along the way, we will get to the part where the clean-up is included in the deal. Until then, I am still grateful for all the help they give me.
Perhaps the cause could be helped with a lesson from this week's Torah portion, Bamidbar. It is the first Torah portion in the Book of Numbers and is mostly concerned with the census of the Israelites, the arrangement of the camp in the wilderness, and the various responsibilities of the clans within the tribe of Levi. The Torah usually does not go into details, but in Bamidbar it enumerates the specific tasks that would be necessary to see to the proper packing and transporting of the Tabernacle. It is as if the Torah wants to make sure that these logistics are considered along with the sacred tasks we usually think about with regard to the Tabernacle. It is not too different from doing the cooking and baking, and making sure to provide for the clean-up afterward.
The Torah portion teaches us that even the loftiest tasks have an element of the mundane to them; they must be grounded in reality to a certain extent. We know from our own experiences that in order to reach our goals we must dream big, but not forget the little details along the way that make it all possible.

Social Action
Donate To The Food Pantry
Tifereth Israel delivers the non-perishable food items donated by our members on an ongoing basis to the Lutheran Social Services Food Pantry. Canned tuna, chunky soups, helper meals and baby foods are always needed, as are personal care products that cannot be purchased with Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly food stamp, assistance. Please place these items in the designated box in the atrium. Please remember those in our community, both families and older adults.
Want to be more involved with bringing positive change to our community?
The Crime and Violence committee advises that through the efforts of Judge Gill a diversion coordinator has been hired to work with low risk juvenile offenders. Juveniles will be given the opportunity to participate in a Restorative Justice Circle that will not only divert them from the traditional criminal justice system, but will hold them be accountable in a life-changing way .
Volunteers are crucially needed for three initial Circles on the South side, the North Linden area, and the West side. If interested in learning more, please contact 614-525-3130 or email RJ_Circles@fccourts.org. or Amy Byler at the BREAD office at 220-9363.
