Two recent reviews on the connection between endotoxin and chronic kidney disease (CKD) highlight the difficulties in measuring endotoxin in blood products.

A review from Italy details the relationship between bacterial translocation from the intestinal tract and CKD.  This includes the bacteria that make up the microbiota, disruptions in the intestinal barrier, the resulting inflammatory response and possible nutritional treatments.

The second review, from the UK, further details the connection between inflammation and CKD but also focuses on the inability to conclusively attribute the inflammation to endotoxin due to technical difficulties in detecting endotoxin in blood products.
