We are thrilled to announce that BBL has been named a "Reward School" by the NY State Education Department! A Reward School is a school that has made the most progress or has the highest performance with no significant gaps in student achievement. We pride ourselves on reaching high levels of academic achievement, while sustaining our students' natural love of learning.
A few highlights:
- The NY State Commissioner of Education has honored a mere 365 of the state's 4,778 public schools as Reward Schools for the 2015-2016 school year.
- Of those, only 43 are designated "High Progress" schools, including BBL.
- Only 10 other charter schools in the entire state achieved that honor.
"Recognizing the invaluable work your school has been doing to close the achievement gap here in New York City, we saw that the New York State Education Department named your school a Reward School. Congratulations! We know that this is the result of months and years of hard work from you, your team, and especially your students. As we are at the cusp of starting a new school year, I wish your school community the best and hope to be able to visit sometime this school year to see the continuation of this work first hand."
- David Frank, NYC DOE, Director of Charter Policy
