Diana Irey Vaughan
Candidate for PA Treasurer
Greetings!
Given the escalating crisis in state pension funding, the roles and responsibilities of Treasurer of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania are crucial.
[The State Treasurer] has ultimate and final authority for and responsibility over the actions of the Treasury Department and the fulfillment of its legal mission [which includes] managing the moneys of the various programs to preserve principal, provide liquidity, and generate returns that are consistent with both programmatic requirements and legal limitations...manage the various employees ... Finally, the Treasurer will actively pursue investments offering a reasonable risk-adjusted rate of return, appropriate to each pool and equal or superior to comparable alternative investments available to the Pool, and that also provide a positive stimulus to strategic segments of Pennsylvania's economic base, communities, and citizens.
Diana Irey Vaughan, a Washington County commissioner for the past 17 years, is the Republican nominee for PA State Treasurer and is heartily supported by ACTION of PA over the incumbent, Rob McCord, D.
In an interview with Lowman Henry of Lincoln Radio, Irey Vaughn described "the very conservative investment policy" she developed while a Washington County Commissioner.
"A major focus will be to turn things around with the pension funds," Irey Vaughn told Lincoln Radio. "Because the Treasurer sits on the two boards [that have an opportunity to influence the funds], the potential impact on the funds by a Treasurer is substantial."
In Washington County, Irey Vaughan delivered her Qualified Plan For Tomorrow, a long range plan that increased jobs in the County by 6,000 and kept taxes low. She managed county pension funds, which continue to enjoy adequate funding as well as county staff of 1,000. Washington County is just south of Pittsburgh, with roughly half the population and per capita income of Chester County.
ACTION of PA has endorsed Diana as well as Rick Santorum on the Patriot Voices website. "I have known Diana for many years, and she is a committed public servant. A long time Washington County Commissioner, she has been a responsible steward of the taxpayer - something critical to becoming Pennsylvania's next State Treasurer. Patriot Voices PAC is pleased to support to her candidacy."
Ms. Irey Vaughan is scheduled to appear at ACTION of PA's Pre-election Breakfast on November 3. For more information about Diana Irey Vaughan, view the ACTION September 22 webinar under the "Video" link or visit her web site at www.friendswithdiana.com
