Sausalito delegation arrives in Viña del Mar

Agep-V, Viña del Mar delegation, is welcomed by Isabel Allende
Sausalito, June 2014

As the Sausalito-Viña del Mar Sister City program blossoms, the partnership has evolved into a collaborative group of (mostly) women, that now think of themselves as Sistas!
Regardless of whether it's the Sausalito delegation visiting Viña, or the ladies representing Agep-V spending a week in Sausalito, these exchanges are transformational, charged with uplifting and bonding experiences.

SEVEN WOMEN, SEVEN DAYS, SEVEN DREAMS
Asociación Gremial de Empresarias y Profesionales, V RegiónTrade Association of Impresario and Professional Women of the Fifth Region.

|
Agep-V stands for "Trade Association of Impresario and Professional Women of the Fifth Region." Valparaíso is Chile's Fifth Region and Viña del Mar is a municipality belonging to the Fifth Region of Valparaíso. The Agep-V partnership came about after six women entrepreneurs in Viña del Mar decided to grow and prosper under the association's mission statement: "LAS MUJERES SOLAS SON INVISIBLES, LAS MUJERES UNIDAS SON INVENCIBLES" "ALONE, WOMEN ARE INVISIBLE, UNITED, WOMEN ARE INVINCIBLE" The group's main objective is to support each other, while generating business opportunities, such as reaching out to new markets to commercialize their products and to offer services. Agep-V members exchange information while giving each other encouragement. Agep-V was founded on September 1, 2000.

Isabel Allende

A lovely reception hosted by Isabel Allende. In this video, her trademark humor is highlighted as she stands on her tip-toes and tries to reach a mirror to admire one of the gifts given to her by Agep-V member Luisa Collao. Because of her petite size, she can't reach it. In the clip Isabel Allende says: "I can never reach mirrors, which I consider an advantage..."
Isabel goes on to send her regards to the Agep-V ladies back in Viña: "We are here... in my Sausalito office, with a group of friends, your colleagues, and hopefully next time you can come. We're waiting for you with open arms."

Lizzie Jeremi, Sister Cities' operations council member, received well-deserved recognition for her dedication to the Sausalito-Viña del Mar Sister Cities program. In the video, Lizzie sends her regards to the Agep-V ladies back in Viña, and she gave the delegation visiting Sausalito an A+ (Lizzie is a retired teacher) explaining our US grading system. Lizzie remarked on the lovely time everyone involved had, how open minded the women representing Agep-V were, and how receptive they were to learning at the various seminars. Finally, Lizzie stressed that everyone involved wants this partnership and exchange to continue for many years to come.

Rolando Ortega,
Consul General of Chile to San Francisco
|
|
Rolando Ortega expressed his delight at spending time with the Agep-V delegation over the course of the week at the various events organized in Sausalito. Events that highlight the excellent relationship that exists between the two coastal cities, Sausalito and Viña del Mar, and by extension the Fifth Region. The Consul said: "This is an accord that dates back to 1960, that has gained great momentum over the past four years. There have been consecutive visits by the respective city mayors, in both directions, thus we can safely say that there exists a true friendship between the people of both regions, and we will work to continue to allow this to be so. The visiting delegation has participated in a very interesting program, that surely will be repeated in the future, and that will continue to have all of our support. The Consul concluded by thanking the ladies for their visit to the Chilean Consulate in San Francisco, he alluded to the similarities between Chile and California, and he sent his warmest regards to all the members of Agep-V.

Agep-V women get press and media coverage
|
In the video, you see that I was honored with a visit by the Agep-V women on ULUV Music Day (La Fête de la Musique). Marcos Gutierrez, and his wife Isabel, producers of KIQI 1010 radio program Hecho en California, were at Chile Lindo and Marcos interviewed Carolina Arroyo on the spot.
Kay Robinson, NAWBO SF (National Association of Women Business Owners) sent a message back to Chile, to the Agep-V women, touching on the great business prospects with "the women of Chile."
Susan Roe, Sister Cities president, alluded to an existing proposal to build a Marine Mammal Center in Viña, a project that has been brewing for a while. I first heard of the project from the Chile California Council's newsletter, as it is one of their initiatives. You can read about the delegation's visit to the mammal center and learn about the project here: A Global Outlook for Marine MammalsCheryl Popp, Sausalito-Viña del Mar chair, wrote about the visit in her column, Chamber Waves, published by the Marin Scope: Sister city program supports Sausalito business
