BAY AREA SEPTEMBER CHILEAN INDEPENDENCE DAY EVENTS

Greetings!

September is HERE! This is always good news in San Francisco as we finally get a Wave of Warm Weather~known in Chile as el veranito de San Juan (Indian Summer).

This is also National Hispanic Heritage Month because eight Latin American countries commemorate their Declaration of Independence: Mexico, Brazil, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua--and CHILE!!!

Chileans celebrate their Independence Day on September 18th, which this time around falls on a Tuesday. On that day, the Sausalito/Vi�a del Mar Sister City Committee is hosting Fiestas Patrias at Wellington's Wine Bar in Sausalito, CA. I hope you can join us for a glass of Chilean wine, Chile Lindo Empanadas, and who knows... maybe an improvised round of Cueca (Chile's national folk dance).

This year, Chile Lindo pays tribute by producing �El Dieciocho Chico! Literal translation: "the little 18th," which in reality means... let's continue drinking wine and eating empanadas all month, for in Chile it's a month-long Independence "Day." So, on Sunday, September 30th, I invite you to celebrate a la chilena at our friends of Caff� D'Melanio.

Don't miss neither Araucaria Dance Ensemble's traditional folk dance celebration at La Pe�a de Berkeley on Saturday, September 15th, nor El Centro Chileno Lautaro's annual picnic on Sunday, September 16th.
