Health & Safety
Your health and safety, and the health and safety of our staff, are very important to our Co-op. We recently took steps to better meet these goals by changing our receipt paper at the register and conducting a store safety audit. Receipt Paper and Health: What's the Connection?Unfortunately, it is common for receipt paper to contain harmful chemicals that are used in manufacturing. We're excited to share that our new receipt paper is made with a new non-phenol formulation, free of Bisphenol A (BPA) and Bisphenol S (BPS) -- compounds linked to a variety of health concerns. The new paper is made using Vitamin C, a naturally occurring nutrient that is well-known, well-studied, and widely regarded as safe. The paper does have a natural yellow color, which can make it slightly more difficult to read. While we will always provide the option for you to skip the receipt altogether, we realize that sometimes it is helpful and necessary to give you a printed receipt -- and we can now provide a you with a better option. Store Safety AuditEarlier this week, we conducted a safety and security audit of our store. The consultants who performed the audit are used by food co-ops across the country. The auditors were impressed with our established systems, procedures and controls -- especially given we are a relatively new store -- and provided several areas we could improve upon. We will be receiving a full report later this month and look forward to implementing their recommendations. We will continue to look for ways to ensure that both staff and customers have safe, fun, and smooth experiences in our store each day. Cooperatively, Michael Faber General Manager, Monadnock Food Co-op

Annual Meeting & Celebration a Success
By Kathleen Burke, Co-op Board of Directors President
We celebrated our Fifth Annual Meeting & Celebration on the 24th of October and it was a huge success! We had over 150 individuals enjoy delicious, locally sourced food made by our Co-op Deli staff. We sampled local products, listened to store reports, announced our Co-operator of the Year, received the election results, and ate delicious cake. The evening ended with an interesting and informative talk by Amanda Littleton on the challenges our local farmers face. We hope everyone left the meeting feeling proud to be a Member-Owner of our Co-op! The Board would like to thank all who partook in the election. There were 170 validated votes! This is a great turnout and we hope to continue to get more Co-op Member-Owners voting at next year's election. Here are the official results: - Mary Doane 131 votes
- Ken Gregory 52 votes
- Katie Cassidy Sutherland 147 votes
- Bob Oberlander 153 votes
The bylaws were overwhelmingly approved with 153 Accept votes. Thanks for your participation and see you at next year's Annual Meeting!

The Co-operator of the Year Award Goes to Kevin Barth
Congratulations to the 2015 Monadnock Food Co-op Co-operator of the Year: Kevin Barth. We announced this year's Monadnock Food Co-op Co-operator of the Year at our Annual Meeting on October 24th. Congrats Kevin! Kevin is the Receiver at the Monadnock Food Co-op and he goes above and beyond in his role every single day. He smiles and greets every employee, customer, and delivery driver he encounters. He is constantly striving to take on new roles within the Co-op and jumps at opportunities for education and involvement, including serving on several committees within the store. Outside the Co-op, Kevin is a dedicated father and community member who values living a healthy lifestyle and spending time outdoors. The Monadnock Food Co-op Co-operator of the Year Award is given each year to a Member-Owner, staff member or community partner (ex. farmer, organization, business) who exemplifies co-operative values. Those values are self-help, self-responsibility, democracy, equality, equity, solidarity, honesty, openness, social responsibility and caring for others. Thank you Scott Hussey for photographing our Annual Meeting. Enjoy all the photos here.

For the Love of My Slow Cooker
By Mary Veerkamp, Co-op Outreach and Education Coordinator
I know I am not the only one who comes home from work at the end of the day and dreads the question "what's for dinner?" I mean, seriously, I've just used a good portion of my brain power at work and now you want me to figure out a meal too? Over the years, I've tried various methods for coping with the dinner question - weekly menus, batch prepping, tantrums - to name a few. Given this, I'm learning to love my slow cooker more.
