Co-op E-News: January 2015
Co-op Updates
It's hard to believe the holidays are over and we are moving through the frigid temperatures of January already.  Thanks again everyone for a great holiday season.  While the sales week of Christmas was a good one, our best weekly sales record ever was during the week of Thanksgiving.

On Monday & Tuesday of next week, we are thrilled to welcome Ann Lofgren and Ron Maurer from Zingerman's here to teach us about Open Book Management (OBM).  OBM is a method for further engaging staff in achieving financial goals -- and other store goals like sustainability.  We are also honored to welcome staff from ten different Co-ops across the region who will be coming to Keene to participate in this training we're hosting.  Please read the article below for more information about OBM.

Finally, please tell everyone you know about our upcoming SOUPer Bowl Party on January 31st.  It was a huge hit last year and I look forward to seeing who wins this year.

As always, let us know if you have any questions or concerns -- and thank you for a fantastic 2014!

Yours cooperatively,

Michael Faber

OBMOpen Book Management Training
Starts Next Week for Co-op Staff
Ten Rules for Great Finance
By Ari Weinzweig, Zingerman's Co-Founding Partner

Editor's Note: Next week, Co-op Staff will attend an Open Book Management Training from Zingerman's. Here's an article reviewing what this tool is all about:

The simplistic explanation of open-book finance is that "everyone sees the numbers." But that's a passive view of what the system can accomplish. "Seeing the numbers" implies that we've let the staff see the scores, but that is incomplete. Done well, business and open-book finance are participative activities, not spectator sports. When it works, it's because everyone understands the rules of how the game of business is played.
Provide Your Input to Inform the NH Food Strategy
From New Hampshire Food System Network and Strategy

How do we create a food system that works for all in the Granite State? To better understand New Hampshire's food system, and how it could be improved, we want to hear from you!

The Backbone Organization for this effort at the UNH Sustainability Institute will be taking all feedback collected through this survey and combining it with feedback received at our 10 Regional Gatherings held between August and October of 2014.  We are also collecting feedback from a variety of participants at events where we have tabled or will table, individual interviews, and distributed surveys. Additionally, data from NH reports, strategic plans, white papers, and other sources are being analyzed for relevant content to inform this process.  A draft NH Food Strategy will be released to the public by the end of 2015 or early 2016.

Roasted chicken in 45 minutes? Yep. Start this chicken on the stovetop and finish it in the oven. Quick and delish!
