Celebrating Strong End-of-Summer Sales

While the summer winds down, the sales at Monadnock Food Co-op continue to ramp up.  The last week of August brought us our best sales week ever!  Thank you all for making this happen.

We'll celebrate these strong sales and many other Co-op successes at our Annual Meeting & Celebration on Saturday, October 25th starting at 5 p.m. at Heberton Hall in Keene.  Everyone is welcome to attend! Come enjoy music, great food and celebrate a very successful year for the Monadnock Food Co-op.  Also, don't forget to submit your nominee for our inaugural Co-operator of the Year Award before September 30th.

Yours cooperatively,

Michael Faber

Board Update

Annual Meeting Celebration Volunteering

By Jamie White, Monadnock Food Co-op Board Member

There are volunteer opportunities for this Year's Annual Meeting & Celebration.  If you are interested in one or more of the following volunteer opportunities please e-mail board@monadnockfood.coop - the subject line should state which volunteer opportunity you are interested in ("Art Project", "Dessert", "Set Up/Break Down").

Help Make Art

This year we are decorating paper leaves that will be strung up at the Annual Meeting Celebration.  Folks can pick up a leaf and decorate it at home and drop it back off at the Co-op.  There will also be opportunities for folks to decorate the leaves at the Co-op.   Two volunteers are needed for an hour and a half on: September 20th and 27th and October 4th and October 11th from 2:45pm to 4:15pm.  The volunteers will help set up the decorating space in the Co-op's Café at 2:45, be available to help the artists and break down the area at 4:00pm.  If you are interested please e-mail board@monadnockfood.coop with the subject line, "Art Project."

Share a Dessert
It's a dessert potluck!  Food and beverages will be provided as part of the celebration.  If you have a favorite dessert that you'd like to make, please sign-up to bring it for the celebration.  We are hoping that each person who signs up will bring at least one dozen portions, but we are happy to accept any amount of dessert offerings.  If you are interested please e-mail board@monadnockfood.coop with the subject line, "Dessert."

Setting up/Breaking Down
Many hands make light work.  Can you volunteer some time on the day of the Annual Meeting & Celebration to help set up and/or breakdown?  Various volunteer options are available.  If you are interested please e-mail board@monadnockfood.coop with the subject line, "Set up/Break Down" and we will contact you with more specific information to help you choose what works best for you.

I Just Want an Apple!

By Mary Veerkamp, Monadnock Food Co-op Marketing & Membership

Remember back when food was just food? Maybe I was too young or possibly I was simply oblivious, but I don't think determining what was in my food or how it was grown used to be quite such a labyrinth of certifications and acronyms. Even when I really started paying attention, it seemed that there were only 2 choices; conventional and organic. The choice seemed pretty clear, in most cases, and I went along my merry way believing that I was purchasing with an eye towards not only the health of my body, but that of the Earth and our natural resources as well.

Savor Our Seasons
On average, Americans eat over 50 pounds of apples a year (37% of that in fresh whole apples, the rest processed into apple juice, applesauce, apple pie, etc.).
