Dear Friends,
We're thrilled with the responses received from so many of you, offering to help stain the co-op floor on Saturday. Thank you! We'll be sure to post photos of our volunteer crew. Also, we're excited by the buzz generated by the TEDxManhattan "Changing the Way We Eat" Viewing Party. Food and farming leaders from around the nation will share their insights and expertise on sustainable food movement issues, impacts and innovations - and we get to experience it together, right here in Keene! Also, be sure to check out the TEDxManhattan giveaways.
Building Update
The store window installation is over halfway complete. We learned today that some of the windows weigh 400 pounds each! Dry wall taping started and priming of the walls begins on Friday. The building project continues to run on schedule -- which means an early April co-op opening!
Co-op Team Updates
Not one, but two new staff members joined the Co-op Team this week. Welcome Store Manager Whitney Field (left) and IT/P.O.S. Coordinator Pam Croteau (right). That brings our staff team up to six.
Yours Cooperatively, Michael Faber Monadnock Food Co-op General Manager |
Each month we'll raffle off two items - one to a new member-owner and another to a current member-owner - prizes that help the winners eat more local food and/or connect with our local food system.
This Month's Discover Local Give-Away:
Seeds & Soil
Learn More About This Month's Topics: - Compost: Compost closes the loop in our community's food system.
- Seeds: Believe it or not, right now is the right time to source your seeds for the coming growing season - but can you source your seeds locally?

From the Year of Co-ops to the Cooperative Decade By Erbin Crowell, Neighboring Food Co-op Association
The past year has been a watershed opportunity for our food co-ops and for the wider co-operative movement. When the United Nations (UN) declared 2012 the International Year of Co-ops, it brought unprecedented public attention to our business model. In the wake of continuing global recession, co-operative enterprise was showing itself to be a resilient business model. The central purpose of the Year was to shine a light on co-ops as effective tools for poverty reduction, social engagement, and food security, particularly in the context of the UN's Millennium Development Goals.
