Thank You!

Since the co-op is a community initiative, we want to take the time to thank community members for contributing their time, skills and passions to the Monadnock Food Co-op.

Thank you to Jen Luse, Saidie McKillop and Bonnie Hudspeth for carving pumpkins for the co-op. Thanks to their work, each letter of the co-op's name was carved into a pumpkin for Keene's Pumpkin Festival.

November 2012 Update
October was a very busy (but very inspiring) month!  The steel for our building went up, our second annual meeting occurred and we started the hiring process for the Co-op's management team.  Whoosh...

This month we look forward to connecting to more farmers and local food producers interested in selling to the co-op.  See the article Monadnock Co-op Looking for Local Produce from this Tuesday's Brattleboro Reformer.

Building Update

Construction of the Co-op building continues to progress well.  As the builders continue to make progress on the exterior frame, our excitement grows. The exterior wall framing began this week (see picture below) and the roof and insulation installation begins later this week.

While the construction moves along, we were thankful for a visit this week from Rob Martin of the National Cooperative Grocers Association (NCGA, based in Minneapolis).  Rob and NCGA will provide the technical expertise needed to transition our Co-op from the planning stage to the opening of our store.

This week, with Rob's help, we updated our project timeline, equipment list and delivery schedule. Speaking of equipment, we recently placed our refrigeration equipment order and expect our walk in coolers and freezers will be on-site later in November. More building updates in two weeks!

Savor Our Seasons:
Brussels Sprout

By Liza Drew, RD

Flavorful Fact: A typical heirloom Brussels Sprout plant will give you up to 30 sprouts.

Brussels sprouts are American's least favorite vegetable, which I find shocking. They're like sweet and tender mini cabbages, and don't we love all things that are miniature?

Try this Recipe:
