Thank You!

Since the co-op is a community initiative, we want to take the time to thank community members for contributing their time, skills and passions to the Monadnock Food Co-op.

Thank you to Deb O'Meara. Long before the co-op was a co-op, Deb O'Meara was doggedly, but patiently, urging us forward in our struggles to open a co-op in Keene. No job was too small and no detail too complicated for Deb, as she patiently pursued the goal. She was always there when needed - quite often with homemade cookies in hand!

One of nine original board members, Deb has finished her term on the board. We thank her for her tireless pursuit of her dream of shopping in Keene, at last!

October 2012 Update
Annual Meeting is on Saturday
We have so much to celebrate this month (October is Co-op Month!) including our second ever Annual Meeting.  Our meeting is an opportunity for you to learn about our progress, including building updates and general activities from this past year.  We have an amazing guest speaker lined up, who we think will absolutely inspire you about the potential positive impacts co-ops, like ours, can make on the world.

And if that isn't enough, have you tried Stonewall Farm's new line of delicious ice cream?  If the answer is no, please come to the Annual Meeting and enjoy a bowl with us. If the answer is yes, well you know what you're in for - and I know we'll see you there.
It's Pumpkin Time
Help the co-op carve its name into pumpkins for this year's Keene Pumpkin Festival.  If you're willing, contact us and we'll assign you one letter to carve into a pumpkin to spell out Monadnock Food Co-op.  Carve your pumpkin and bring it to our office before 4pm on Thursday, October 18.

And everyone, please be sure to

Building Update
Exciting progress on our building continues. The foundation footings and walls are now complete.  The underground utilities are being laid, and the steel is scheduled to arrive next week.  Our building will soon rise up above ground!

Savor Our Seasons:
Apples

By Liza Drew, RD

Flavorful Fact:

Where have all the apples gone? This year has been a tough one for many local orchards. That balmy weather we enjoyed last March was one culprit, causing trees to bud early and then get damaged by a frost a few weeks later. Trees that made it bloomed about two weeks ahead of schedule, which can mean an early end to the season as well, so get them now before they're gone
